I'm looking for a new road bike, one which I will use for commuting to work (with a safe storage area) as well as long weekend rides. I am looking for something fun and lightweight to ride an upcoming Century in a few months.

My preferences are as follows:

Prefer carbon or steel to aluminum.
Tired of Shimano, like Campy (probably Veloce or Centaur) and willing to try SRAM Rival.
Like compact doubles.
Not crazy about lots of color and decals...keep it muted or simple (carbon often looks great).

Any ideas? Please let me know. Oh yeah, trying to get it under $2K

How about a LeMond? There are some great closeout deals available. I just got a Buenos Aires steel frame, carbon "cockpit" and Veloce gruppo.

Look for lightly ridden used bikes on here, serotta, clist and the bay.

How about Indy Fab's Club Racer? Hampsten's Bianca Strada?

I second the LeMond. Great ride and great closeout pricing. How can you beat that!

You could probably find a year old Lemond Zurich carbon with Rival or Ultegra for 2k at a local bike shop in your area, sometimes they are very willing to deal on 07's that have been sitting around 12 or 13 months. Great bike for the money IMO.
