View Full Version : Campag 2005
Kiwi Rider 08-28-2004, 08:54 PM Hey everyone,
Just so you know, for 2005, Centaur and Veloce casstettes will be different, not sure how except for a blue centre spacer. Veloce gets those mountain-bike-like shifters, and I think a few other improvents to the road grouppo. Centaur gets Carbon cranks at 560g, both in compact and standard form. Record and Chorus mainly unchanged, compact cranks/front derellieurs, Record compacts = 520g. As you also know, Eurus get carbon hubs (and silver rim), and on Neutrons too (still black rim though). Silver Record brakes get same logo as the black ones.
I think thats pretty much it, my LBS showed me the new product sheets yesterday.
Thanks for posting the poop on the new stuff, Kiwi. :)
Also be aware: Centaur BB's will be changed to the same 102mm spindle size as Chorus/Record. No more need to futz with AC-H 111mm! So, you'll be able to save some $ and buy the Centaur-version BB and use it with any 3 of the cranksets, or Centaur cranks w. any 3 of the BB's.
Got this yesterday straight from "Dave" at Campy USA.
Kiwi Rider 08-31-2004, 11:01 PM Yea, I thought I'd missed something out, but Campag fans would've had that e-mailed to them :)
And it's only 233g, 13g heavier than the current Chorus one.
Any speculations for 2006? Carbon Centaur shifters?!
I didn't get the weight spec on the new Centaur BB, but that sounds about right.
I wouldn't doubt the Centaur shifters being changed in some way for next year, but Centaur & Chorus are so close now that they'll prolly keep the Cent. levers Al. With Campy, who knows?? The best thing is though that you can always count on it being an improvement, however small.
Going to pick up a noo Chorus braze-on and Centaur brakes today. :D (Along with a very noice FSA Team Pro carbon crankset!) Mmm, mmm, good!

I was suprised to see this, so I double checked the '05 information from Campagnolo and also talked to Dave at Campy USA. The new Centaur BB is only available in 111.
The full line of ergolevers is unchanged for '05
The new stuff for '05 is the carbon Centaur cranks, new 111 Centaur BB, flat bar shift/brake levers, Eurus wheel with carbon hubs, at least those are the biggies.

You guys kill me. Thanks for adding a little humor to my day.

ChristianB 09-01-2004, 11:44 AM You forgot about Compact Cranksets (Record, Chorus & Centaur) and compact front derailleur to match cranksets.

thanks, I realized that after I finished my reply. I mostly wanted to clarify the Centaur 111 BB issue and that there will be no changes to the ergolevers for '05.
flakey -
Dave must have told me the wrong spec then, because he said 102 for the new Centaur, and said it would jive with Chorus/Record cranks, so....
To all: Just relaying exactly what I was told. Sorry if it caused any confusion.
Turtle-
Mind telling us what you find so humorous in what I said about Campy usually making improvements to their groups? Are you a Campy-hater, or just trolling for fun??
Kiwi Rider 09-01-2004, 08:36 PM I realise there are no changes to the Campy line of Ergo levers this year, only speculating for 2006. However, there is going to be a new shifter for Veloce, like a mountain bike shifter/brake combo, probably for cruiser type bikes. I don't know the specs for the Centaur BB except it weighs in at 233g, but according to the newsletter from Campag its 111mm.
