probably a stupid question, but i heard someone mention this in relation to cyclocross training. isn't it also an event on the track?

The Madison IS an event on the track. (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sportacademy/hi/sa/special_events/cycling/newsid_3650000/3650957.stm) is also the BEST way I know of to do interval training! It lets you concentrate on the high speed without having to accelerate yourself up to that speed constantly.

You could conceivably do a Madison-style workout on road/cross bikes if you ride in a circular area with a hill in it. The hill is so you get some momentum before your partner comes past.

I can't wait to get ATP down to the track and kick his arse doing Madison sessions! Heh, heh, heh (evil chuckle!) Even tho he outweighs me by a fair bit, it'll still be a fun time.
