Has anyone had any trouble gluing on the Tufo cross pro (the black ones) tires and getting them fairly round?
I glued on two sets last year and both my rears had hops near the valve stem. I'm pretty sure this is poor gluing technique on my part. The wheels are round and the glue on the rim and tire is smooth.
Any suggestions on how to avoid bumpy tires this season? Anyone use Lennard Zinn's carpenter's strap suggestion?
This year I'm using Vittoria tape and conti glue (last couple of years I've just used conti glue) will this make a difference?

My road ones had hops no matter what I tried, and I'm pretty good at mounting tubulars.
[Mine glued on very true using Conti glue and no tape. I did put them on the rims, inflated them to max pressure and let them stretch out for a few days prior to gluing. I don't know if that might have made a difference.

Most of the Tufos I've ever had have been round and true. Even the $20 training tires.
Since there's no "tube" there isn't an overlap like on the cheap tires from other brands.

Glued more Tufo's than I care to remember. Never had this problem. I've used both Vittoria and Clement glue. Be sure to inflate them to high pressure (80-100psi) and let them sit a overnight once you have them on the rim.

Hmm... So I may not be gluing right. I stretch my tires on the rims (usually months in advance) at the very least a week before gluing. I glue using the CXworld instructions. And I inflate to 80-100 PSI after gluing and leave them overnight before riding.
Could it possibly be that I'm running my Tufo Pros at too low psi? I know the elites can go down to 28 psi, how about the pros?
At Merrimack last year I took my pressure way down (around 30, maybe lower) to deal with the snowy conditions. The traction in the snow was great, but the road sections were unbearable because the tire thumped on every revolution. Should I aim for 45 psi? I'm about 185 lbs right now and 45-50 psi on cross clinchers seems to be the magic number for me.
Is it unreasonable to want to run my tubbies at 35-40 PSI in yucky conditions?
