View Full Version : New toys for me...
russw19 09-04-2004, 09:43 PM So I went to the shop today to goof off and sit and wait for a hurricane to hit. I ended up coming home with 2 bikes.
First the stories, then the pics....
A long time ago I had this old crappy Bianchi road bike. It was pretty low end and I got it the first summer I worked in a shop when I was 14 as a bike to ride back and forth to school since my "real" bike was way too nice. Anyways, I rode it for about 2 years before I bought a car and then I gave it to my best friend. He went off to school at Arizona State and used it as his campus bike then went to law school at Case Western in Cleveland. After law school he put it in his parent's garage and forgot about it for the past 4 years. Well his parents moved this summer and while I was on vacation 3 weeks ago in Ohio he gave it back to me. I decided to make a single speed out of it and put fenders on it and make it my 2nd town bike. Really it was just a project to resurrect a bike in sad shape. I still need to change out the chainrings, but didn't have the right ring in stock. I am going to put a 40 tooth up front and a chainring guard on it. I would keep what's on it, but they are BioPace rings and BioPace's egg shape and single speed chain tension don't mix well. So a new ring is on order.
The second bike I picked up for the parts. I have the exact same frame as this one, but mine is 2 cm bigger. One of the guys I work with sold me this Pinarello Paris with 8 speed Record for dirt cheap. The frame will be up for sale in about a week, and I plan to take the parts and put them on a Lemond Poprad frame and make a sweet Campy Record 8 cross bike out of it. New projects are so much fun!

colker1 09-05-2004, 04:24 AM you got to love the shape of those record 8sp shifters. a 54 paris frame huh? if i wasn't so far south i would probably take it away from you. btw, how much is a lemond proprad frame these days?
gdtrfb24 09-05-2004, 07:11 AM how do you plan to sell the frame? ebay or in the shop?
i'm in g'ville and interested in the frame. rode a pinarello back in the 90's and really regret selling the frame. like the plug for spin cycle in the pics. shopped there several times, but usually go to bike route due to the location being walking distance from home.

The frame is on ebay, but it just went on last night. The bike is currently at Spin. I didn't have room in my car to take both home so I took the commuter bike first. The funny thing about the "Spin wall" in the background is that I was going to take the picture out front but just as I was going to it started to rain yesterday. So that little wall by the repair area was the next best thing.
I love this frame. I have a 55 with Record 10 and it's amazing. Like I said in the first post, I bought this one for the parts. I would keep it but the 55 I already have is borderline too small. But if you are interested in this frame swing by Spin tomorrow and I will be there from noon to 6. If the weather is nice you can take it for as long of a ride that you want. Take it down the Hawthorne trail if you like. And if you do want to ride it for a long ride, bring your pedals... since this doesn't have any on it. (I could always throw a set of shop flat pedals on it for you...) Otherwise, if you can't make it by, PM me for my phone number or call me at Spin tomorrow.

I knew of all the people on this board, you would be one of the first to tell me you wanted this frame! Yeah... it's a shame you are down there.. this is about the size you ride, isn't it? Don't you ride a 54? You know I already have one of these, right? I just wish this frame was 2 cm larger and I would keep it as is. I like this frame so much more than the Prince.. I like the ride of the full aluminium so much better. But that's just me.
Poprad framesets retail for $600, but the full bike is only $1200. I am going to get the whole bike and swap the parts. I may sit on them and use them for another project, or unload them as a build kit... haven't decided yet.
In case you haven't seen the new Poprad, here's a link....

Looks much better than last year's all black bike in my opinion, plus the newer ones are True Temper OX Platinum tubing... nicer than the 853 select frames.

Russ
