I went to watch the final stage of the Tour of Britain, a crit around Westminster on a brilliant Sunday afternoon.

Merckx was there and it's true, he's lost a lot of weight and looked great.

Bradley Wiggins along with Nico Mattan were away but finally got tracked down in the last two laps.

After the race I was hanging around the Quickstep motorhome and around the corner I spotted the Lion of Flanders. He gave me that look but obliged for a photo.

Great picture, but it aint Eddy. Compare this picture to any other picture of him ever, and you will see this guy doesn't even have the same earlobes as Eddy.

He didn't say it was Eddy. It's Johan Museeuw AKA the lion of flanders.

boneman - I was down on Sunday with my boy in a backpack - we managed the first half of the race until the boy required a bottle and some food - we retired to St James' Park and listened to the roar of the crowd

it was great seeing a race on familiar streets

Please let it stop with the earlobes....

-- anyone who has even been only partially concious during the coverage of the spring classics during the past half-decade (or more!) would have instantly recognised Johan Museeuw (earlobes and all!!!!) -- much as Boneman did when he correctly referred to him as the "Lion of Flanders!"

As pennance, all those who failed to recognise this cycling legend must purchase and read the following:

yes, in flemish -- but what did you expect for the Lion of Flanders!!

:-)

Merckx would never be construed to be a Flandrian. Boonen, well he can inherit the mantle, time will tell through, coming from just outside of Antwerp. If you're ever in Antwerp, the Elfde Gebod bar, roughly translated from Flemish as the 11th Commandment, is a great place to drink a multitude of the country's fine beers.

He looks kinda intimidating to say the least. Definately one of my favorite riders and so sad to see him retire. He definately came close to going out with another win on the cobbles. Nice shot of the watering hole as well, would love to come over and visit alot of the pubs there! You guys that live there are definately lucky!
