I just bought one on sale for $200. I plan on using it as a communter/tourer/winter/rain bike. It has room for 38c tires and fenders. I plan on building it up with 9 speed 105 and possibly a compact crankset. Has anyone owned or seen one?
hoopshot 09-15-2004, 06:18 AM I guess the answer to your question would be no. :-)
Have you received the frame yet. I'm curious what your impression is.

It came last night. It's a beautiful frame/fork for $200. The paint/powercoat is a deep green and welds look good. It has all kinds of braze-ons for bottles, fenders, and racks.
I'll build it up in the next 2 weeks and post pictures....
racerx 09-15-2004, 08:42 AM I somehow feel that I should at least get a trial ride.... :D
Keep us in the loop on it works. I have been eyeballing the same frame and had considered buying it but some guy kept teasing me with his TT frame so I find myself a bit short of cash at the moment.

LOL, yes you contributed to the Dave Hickey cycling addiction fund. By the way, your TT frame is coming in the touring frame box....

"By the way, your TT frame is coming in the touring frame box...."
I can hear it now...
Mr. Hickey - "Great news honey(to Mrs. Hickey), I just sold a bike frame.
Mrs. Hickey - "That's great. Now we can put that money towards the new hardwood floor we have been talking about".
Mr. Hickey - "Well, the problem is that I don't have a box to ship it in. Hey wait a minute, I will get that Nashbar frame. It's on sale and it will come in the perfect box to ship the Gitane in."
Mrs. Hickey - "I should have known this would be another cycle purchase scheme".
Very clever, very clever indeed!!
Dave Hickey 09-16-2004, 04:53 AM LMAO, You don't know how close to the truth that is....... Hardwood floors are a weekly discussion..
slowride 09-29-2004, 06:58 AM Sorry to resurrect an old post, but I'm looking for info on this frame... a couple things specifically: 1. can I run cantis on it (does it have a cable stop in the back?) and 2. what's the sizing like? Colorado Cyclist worksheet says I should get a 55cm, but that frame's only 54 or 56... having trouble deciding which one to get...
Thanks!

I built the frame up last week and it's real nice. It's taking some getting used to the long wheelbase after having very short wheelbase bikes. In answer to your questions:
1. Yes it has canti mounts front and rear. It doesn't have cable stops. I found a cable stop at an LBS that attaches to rear bridge the works fine. Something that attaches to the seat collar would work great too.
2. These frames are measured from center BB to top of the seat tube. Because the seat tube extends above the TT, stand over is not a problem. I'd buy the frame based on TT measurement
slowride 09-29-2004, 07:51 AM Great, thanks a ton!
The experience is going to be all new for me... haven't ridden a road bike in a long time!

Any pics and feedback so far on his Nashbar?
I was eyeing this frame.

It's not bad..Very comforatable for an aluminum frame. Tons of tire clearance. I use it strickly as a rain/winter bike and it suits that purpose perfectly....
slowride 11-30-2004, 01:17 PM I'm using it as my only road bike... I'm primarily a MTBer. It works great for my purposes. I can post some pics later in the week if you want...

Sure! I'd enjoy seeing some pics.
I was looking at the Surly Long Haul Trucker and this frame. I like fact that it has downtube shifter bosses.

Thanks for the pic post. Nice build. I am fan of downtube shifters.
How tall are you and what size frame did you build up?
meat tooth paste 12-13-2004, 11:34 AM Nashbar has a 20% discount code right now: 25DEC
So this $200 frame is just $160. Not bad.
The discount code is only valid til tomorrow I believe.

I'm considering the frame/fork for purchase and was wondering just how much tire clearance there was. Would a 700X45 clear in both the front and rear? Do you still like this frameset? Did the geometry match the specs on Nashbar's site? Anything unexpected or unusual concerning the geometry/fit?
TIA

I'm not sure about 45's. 38's fit with room to spare. The geometry is spot on. If you are interested in my frame, PM me. I'll sell it real cheap. I found an old Vitus aluminum touring frame that I'm using as my winter/rain bike so I'm selling the Nashbar frame
