Hi. Just got an On One il Pompino and built it up with flat bars (pictures to come soon). I know I can ride in races with the flat bars (no worries here about me riding in the 'A' races), but i was also considering a setup with bullhorns. The bullhorns will be better in the end for my commuting, but I'm wondering whether I'll be allowed to race in a B or C race with bullhorns WITH bar-end brakes. Obviously the setup with no brakes on the ends of the bars is a no-no, but do you think i'll get stopped if i'm there with the levers on the ends? it's essentially like a drop bar without the drops...

any experience or input is appreciated. the easy solution might just be to swap the bars AFTER cross season.

I'd be shocked if any of the officials I know & work with would give the nod to bullhorn bars in any mass start race, with or without the brake levers.

Cheers!

With or without 'em, bullhorns will look too dangerous. They are a great way to go, as an alternative to flat bars--I'm running an old Scott AT-2 bar on a Jake, which means I can run MTB controls (including thumbshifters!). The curve of the "horns" offers more hand positions than bar-ends on a flat bar.

Swap after the season ends. I have seen officials instruct racers to remove barends and bullhonrs on occassion....

Of course, you could always swivel them around 180 degrees for that English 3-Speed look!

Cheers!
