I'd wait about 3.5 more years.

Buy them when you want them. They are beautiful objects. I bought 2 new bikes this year and it was my first year on a road bike. Ill be buying another bike over the winter for sure.

And you can get one for your SO and won't skip the mortgage or child support payment, then go for it. I did, it's a beautiful ride.

I'm on your train, buddy! I also bought 2 brand new roadbikes (wilier triestina/orbea) this year alone (plus bought another one (coppi) for my lady as a present). Now, I already have my eyes on a Merlin. YUMMM! I've been riding for 6 years now.... years well spent :D

Now, the difficult part: Justifying the purchases.... I don't think I can. Is there medication for addiction to roadcycling gear? Hehehehehe

What an abomination. Think that you have enough g-d damn spacers shoved under that stem. Might as well be float a parachute behind you since your aerodynamics are shot already. Maybe you need a hybrid or even better a Reveive so that you are comfortable.

Go get a saw a fix that steerer tube you Fred.

No, the entire U.S. economy is depending on your spending some of your discretionary funds on a nice shiny new bike. While I would recommend a Cannondale 6-13 myself, that Trek should do a fine job helping out the economy.

Buy Now! It's your patriotic duty.

Ti frames mate for life. You're stuck unless the LS breaks. Good luck.

Four years? It hasn't even been four months since I bought my bicycle (after using the same one for 18 years) and I already want to buy another. Buyers remorse, maybe. I wish I had spent more, but only when I'm not on the bike. When I'm on it, it feels great.

solution: ride more, buy less. you'll be faster. guaranteed!

depends... if you are not comfortable on that litespeed..like, if it's an ultimate w/ ultra short cs and you want to ride into the sunset on a leisurely pace then it's not too soon but the trak is not the answer; i would look at a heron rally. but then i'm biased cause those treks look VERY ugly in my book.

Dude, is it even safe to be riding it like that? I can't imagine a LBS would send you out the door like that, what with all the liability lawsuits you hear about...

Are you talking about the seat post? It's up about 4 1/2 inches. Fits and rides well, doesn't seem to be too high. Maybe the pack strap made it look weird. Here's another view.

You bought the Litespeed 4 years ago? What are the three bikes you've bought since then?

No, the stem spacers man!

I know that is a carbon steering tube... Isn't the max like 1.25"?

OK. Yeah, 2 of the stem spacers are coming out. The seat's up 1", about 4 1/2" from the stem collar to the bottom of saddle clamp.

just as long as you pay cash. You have to keep the old one so you can have an alternative ride, or eye candy, or for the SO or a friend, or whatever. Building up a fleet is cool. Personally I'd think more along the lines of a Custom ti bike than an OCLV, but I'm prejudiced as I've had several problems with Trek OCLV frames (mountain, I still have the last one but it's not used for rough rides, can't trust it no more, nor Trek's willingness to honor the "lifetime" warranty).

With a custom frame, you could get one where you don't need so much seatpost showing or stem spacing. But ride the bike the way you want. I pass plenty of "roadies" with the full on team clothing and hunched over position; guess they think they're road racers but couldn't be if I can pass 'em (my seat is probably a bit less than 1" above my bar height, I don't like being all hunched over, it doesn't work for my body). BTW I think I've seen 3 inches of spacers being max advised for at least one carbon steerer...but I'd make sure what your manufacturer spec's.
