Clincher Tublar Kevlar Arimaid Wire ??????????Help me quick i need to buy tires outofthesaddle 09-14-2004, 01:04 PM with clincher rims that does not require a tube. They resemble a standard tubular except that they are flat where they mount to the rim and that mount without glue. They are heavier than standard tubulars and lots of people complain that they are difficult to mount. I use them for cyclo-cross and really like them. There are a few threads on them if you do a search. Tufo makes them: http://www.tufo.com/index.php?lg=en&mn=1&id=39 divve 09-14-2004, 01:36 PM Get the open tubular. outofthesaddle 09-14-2004, 02:04 PM Veloflex calls the Pave clincher an open tubular. Kerry Irons 09-14-2004, 03:57 PM Clincher - standard tire, with a separate tube. What you think of when you think of a bike tire. Tublar - tire casing is sewn around the tube, and the tire is glued to the rim. You cannot use a tubular on a clincher rim, or vice versa. There is such a thing as a tubular clincher. Tufo makes them, and people often refer to them as clinchulars. It has a sort-of tubular construction but includes a pair of ribs on the casing that allow it to be mounted on a clincher rim. Kevlar - the material used in the bead of a foldable clincher tire, and sometimes as a flat resistant belt or fabric weave in the tire casing. The alternative is a wire-bead tire, which is heavier and cannot be folded compactly. Arimaid - it's aramid, and it's the generic name for Kevlar Wire - see above Dave_Stohler 09-16-2004, 07:30 PM What the heck do they mean? Clincher This is the "common" type of tire Tublar A totally different type of tire, one which requires the tire to be glued to a different type of rim. Kevlar A type of synthetic thread. Means nothing on it's own, and is mostly advertising hype. Kevlar is used in bullet-proof vests, but if a piece of glass goes between threads, you are just as flat. Arimaid A family of synthetic threads. Kevlar is an aramid thread. Wire A long, thin metal extrusion, often rolled into spools. ??????????Help me quick i need to buy tires |
