During a 1997 debate on CNN's "Crossfire," Sen. John Kerry, now the Democratic presidential nominee, made the case for launching a pre-emptive attack against Iraq.
So reveals Rep. Peter King, New York Republican, who appeared with Mr. Kerry on the program.
Mr. King says the U.N. Security Council had just adopted a resolution against Iraq that was watered down at the behest of the French and the Russians. Yet the candidate who now criticizes President Bush for ignoring French and Russian objections to the Iraq war blasted the two countries, claiming that they were compromised by their business dealings with Baghdad.

"We know we can't count on the French. We know we can't count on the Russians," said Mr. Kerry. "We know that Iraq is a danger to the United States, and we reserve the right to take pre-emptive action whenever we feel it's in our national interest."

Moonie Times! The voice of truth! Rather than quoting a transcript cites an "unbiased" source, Rep. Peter King, New York Republican.

Hey, why nonstop Kerry smearing? Could it be there's nothing worthy in W's record as the one in charge to defend?

"whether or not we were prepared and trained to win, whether or not our forces were of high morale and high standing and well-equipped.

And finally, whether or not there was an exit strategy.

I would take the use of force very seriously. I would be guarded in my approach. I don't think we can be all things to all people in the world. I think we've got to be very careful when we commit our troops.

The vice president and I have a disagreement about the use of troops. He believes in nation-building. I would be very careful about using our troops as nation builders."

I wonder who said this little number back in 2000?

I don't see any CASE for unilateral strikes in what you posted. All I see is a statement that we have the right to do so for national security. Not that we SHOULD do so. "Reserve the right" being the operative phrase, in case you missed it.

Right to preemptive action is one thing in the abstract. The ACTUAL choice to do so, the choice of targets, the reasons for doing so, the methods of going in, are something else entirely.

Wrong war, wrong place, wrong time. A war of choice, not of necessity.

And how does this "quote" cover W's ass for his piss-poor post-war planning?

I thought the issue was whether it was truly in our national interest to invade and occupy Iraq?
Or perhaps more accurately, what exactly the national interests were/are for invading Iraq.

Didn't you claim recently that Kerry is a liar? Why would you believe anything he says?
