MR_GRUMPY 09-26-2004, 03:57 PM Bush: Would Give 'Mission Accomplished' Speech Again
Sun Sep 26, 3:23 PM ET
CRAWFORD, Texas (Reuters) - President Bush said he had no regrets about donning a flight suit to give his "Mission Accomplished" speech on Iraq in May 2003 and would do it all over again if he had the chance, according to excerpts from an television interview released on Sunday.
When asked by Fox News if he still would have put on a flight suit to declare major combat operations in Iraq over, Bush replied, "Absolutely."
When Bush gave his May 1 speech fewer than 150 Americans had died in the war. Since then more than 900 have died.
When asked if he put on a thong to declare major combat operations in Iraq over, Bush replied, "Absolutely."
What a nitwit.

A thong? ;-)

I already find the guy repulsive enough. Did ya have to leave me with that visual!?

Here come the bad dreams.
MR_GRUMPY 09-26-2004, 07:29 PM Here's the "Pin-up" For all those Repubs who can't come out of the closet.
Duane Gran 09-27-2004, 06:57 AM One might say that the military mission of defeating the Iraqi army was accomplished, but that is stretching it a bit. Politicly speaking, Bush can't win with questions like that. Either he regrets the past, which casts doubt on his decisions, or he stands by his decisions, which in this case makes him appear stubborn.

I think Bush's main strategy is to deny everything bad happening and act as if everything is coming up roses. You see this all the time in failing corporations--the CEO never says that things are bad--he/she always says that things are great and getting better--just a few challenges to overcome first.

What's a good capitalist politico to do?
See, in that regard we socialists have it dicked. We can just rewrite history so we never said the boneheaded thing.

Is there anything better than seeing the Lenin film showing Stalin as the right hand man and then see him "disappear" after Krushchev re-edits. Or the Russian cosmonaut getting congratulated by no one because Breschnev decided to take Krushchev off the film reel.
You guys...good times.

You guys...good times.the humor in socialism. It's a freaking laff riot over here on the hard Left.

For the second time today. You have made me laugh out loud. Will now stop drinking liquids while reading your posts.
Live Steam 09-27-2004, 09:18 AM General Tommy Franks says he was responsible for urging Bush to make that claim. He believed it would help urge others to join the coalition if they believed that major hositilites were finished. He still stands by that thought. He also believes that it helped the morale of the troops.
It's no wonder we can't really make claims to doing something in a positive vein when there are so many Americans who love to shoot us down. I guess the military and government all liars!

So in other words Bush told a lie in order to sucker people into the coalition and make the troops feel good about what they were doing? And that is a good thing how? Don't you think the American public can handle the truth?

Bush can't so he thinks the American people can't either.

pig farm for a few days, and am just now noticing that you've added an avatar. Good show! The cat is, somehow, YOU, and makes your posts more effective. Sort of 'czardonicism with a human face.' Bravo!

an open intellectual curiosity, just like Comrade czar.
BTW, Live Steam's avatar is apropos too -- you know, a steam locomotive running over you like the irresistable engine of his political "logic."
Duane Gran 09-27-2004, 09:41 AM I can't believe that my avatar hasn't gotten any notice. I preferred your old one, Red. And where did your nice "ho ho ho-chi-min!" tagline go?

I like your avatar Duane. Just what is Bart telling the ole devil there?

My old avatar and tagline were developing inherent contradictions i.e. were becoming entrenched bureaucracy. We must struggle against this tendency. Your new avatar is a step in that direction as well.
Smash the inherent contradictions! All power to the workers!

Haven't figured that one out yet, it just seemed evocative of the devil's advocate that I like to be. I've been wondering if your avatar represents something about body building. I'll confess that it doesn't make sense to me.

I kind of like to cycle my avatars. That one came back at SN69s request. It is a animated GIF of Bruce lee using numchucks. Nothing too deep there. I just liked the way it looked. In fact I think I may change it to something else. Rust never sleeps.

Duane Gran 09-27-2004, 10:22 AM LOL (literally). I'll never see your avatar the same again.

The latest iteration is perfect for your moniker ...
Long live the Mullet!
Live Steam 09-27-2004, 10:30 AM Ah, some humor at last! Are you still trembling? :O)
