The U.S. Army is considering shortening yearlong combat tours in Iraq (news - web sites) and Afghanistan (news - web sites) amid concerns the long and perilous duty is making it hard to attract new soldiers and keep current ones, officials said on Monday.

Why would the Army be worried about retention if everything is going so peachy keen? Why aren't young Americans lining up for a chance to lend a hand in this noble and better-by-the-day endeavour. Perhaps you can tell us from your own perspective. Surly you aren't fooled by the doom and gloom liberal media. Steam, I know that you get the Good News about Iraq from the Guardsman periodicals.

They will be able to shorten the yearlong tour because of the upcoming draft, silly.

Damn Democrats and their Campaign Stunt Wars! Can't they get elected on their ability to deliver peace and prosperity to America, rather than cowing voters with tales of evil-doers, mushroom-clouds and self-congratulating War Presidents. Can't wait for the Republicans to be back in control of the White House, Congress and Supreme Court!!

No, I think Grumpy is talking about the one that GWB & Rummy is lying about - the one they're going to re-instate if they win the election, but that they won't admit to now.

The Dem's are being up-front about wanting to start up the draft.
