If you already know what you want and you're just wanting to know where to buy then I'd suggest trying ebay...

If you are asking what Polar HRM is good, I have the 720i and love it... I have the speed and cadence sensors and or course the HR strap.

grrr, seller backed out on the 710i I was getting. At least he returned my money.

Now, I'm back at square one. I've been trolling ebay for both monitors and accessories. Does anyone have online resources for new ones? The main reason I'd go new is to ensure the warranty's in tact. Looking for 510/520 or 710/720, I'd like to have the up/download capability.

It's new and has a 2 year warranty... All you need is the cadence sensor and you're set.

Question.

I'm always concerned when buy $$ electronics from non-authorized sources. I bought my plasma, for example, online but only from an authorized source. Do the Polar HRM's break down a lot?

I'm not averse to ebay, hell, I bought 3 bikes (over $2.5K) on ebay, sight unseen. Just checking though...

I got mine from these guys via Ebay for $230. They are a Polar approved dealer so I'm not as worried about warranty issues. In any event their website offers a pretty good price on the 720i--$249

I've had my 710 for 3 years now, I would go with a dealer, I've sent mine back for service and they asked for the orginal receipt. The price on the link of the previuos post is awesome!

Yup...be aware Polar has a beef with people selling the monitors for less on Ebay and through cut-rate dealers:

If you are really worried only buy from an authorized dealer. I don't know how they would view a warranty claim from me since I bought through an authorized dealer on Ebay...probably would give me a hard time anyway:

OK, since some you posters seem to be familiar w/ Polar... ;)

1) IrDA - Can any external infrared port work or do I have to get the Polar made one? My laptop has IR but my desktop does not. I was thinking of something like this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=44961&item=5126695081&rd=1

2) 625x - I started reading up on this. Granted there aren't many deals for this, but it has some "neat" options. I plan on using the HRM to help me cycle train (for CX mostly) and do intervals. I also plan to "share" this w/ my wife who'll use this thru her current pregnancy and hopefully running when her IT band heals up. I run as well. The pedometer is not a deal killer, but can anyone convince me that it's worth it to pay the extra $100 for the running sensor? Yeah, I know the speed sensor is extra.

Thanks for the input.

www.heartratemonitorman.com Fast shipping! You need to email him or call him but his prices were the lowest I found including Ebay. I was ready to bid and I searched the forums here and his site came up alot so I emailed him. He is based in New York. His prices were lower by $30 then what I was going to pay on Ebay for the 720, IR, and cadence.

I would assume you could use any IrDA port, I use the one on my IBM laptop...

I got an awesome deal on my 720i by using the trade up program from Polar. I had a 10 year old monitor with batterys long dead and they sold me the 720i for $216 and all I had to do was send the old one in within 30 days. This way I got a great deal and there won't be any issues with warranty work. All you have to do is find an old, dead polar monitor at a yard sale or flea market... :D

Thanks for the tip! GREAT pricing on the the 720i AND 625x. WAY less than the MSRP that my local running store was charging and less than the best ebay prices. And authorized too! I like to support my local, small shops. But this was too good of a deal. I'm going w/ the 625x and 2 speed sensors.

Put in an order, I'll post how the transaction ends up.

Didn't realize you could do that! Man...and to think I let my 9 year old take my ruined Polar Coach apart to learn how it worked! Coulda saved me some dough.

Buy from an authorized dealer. If you have any warranty issues and send in the receipt from an unauthorized dealer they may not cover the work. If you do buy it from an unauthorized dealer and send it in for warranty work they will go by the manufacturing stamp on the parts, which will tell them the date of manufacturing and they will use that for warranty. The warranty is 2 years from time of purchase and if they use the manufacuturing stamp sometimes they are made a year in advance. So beware...you can find some good deals through thier authorized internet dealers maybe a few bucks more then ebay but its worth it for the integrity of the warranty. If you call them they will glady find you the best price from an authorized dealer on the internet.

You can trade in any polar HRM working or not workin, in 1 piece or 100 pieces. So find any old polar transmitter and receiver and they will do the trade, no questions asked.

The watches will work with the IRDA on any laptop.

Guess thats it for now
Good luck

Got my 625x and 2 speed sensors yesterday. Very fast shipping from NY to CA, since the website owner actually called me (nice!) on Monday to confirm the order.

I'm happy w/ it, but I have to admit, holy crap it's complicated. I'm an engineer and it sure isn't intuitive...

Spudmike, thanks for the trade-in info. Believe it or not, Peter at www.heartratemonitorman.com (thanks for the tip above) actually had a better price (plus free shipping and no tax) than the trade-in program. Plus he is fully authorized.

So here's another recommendation for www.heartratemonitorman.com. Forget ebay. He had better prices. You just have to email him for a quote.
