Are there any board denizens who have online retailers they use and like that are north of the 49th parallel??
I want to do some comparison price shopping / maybe some buying where I don't the UPS guy showing up looking for payment of duties and taxes.
Thanks

www.bikeroom.com
I've never shopped there, but i haven't heard anything bad about them. their prices aren't that bad. But what I've found is that even after shipping, exchange and GST ordering from performance or nashbar or whoever in the US (with a coupon) still works out to be less than ordering within canada. Well, for large orders at least. Just get it shipped USPS. Brokerage will only be $5 and you shouldn't get charged duty for bike parts, just GST (there's no PST in BC)
oh yeah, http://www.labicicletta.com/ ships from canada as well.

Baxter,
Thanx. Knew about Bicicletta but did not know about bikeroom. Interesting site. I am actually looking for some hubs right now, the 105 hubs are cheaper at bike room, the Ultegra hubs are $6 more at bikeroom ( certainly will be less than exchange and what not) the D/A hubs are much more at bikeroom than nashbar.
Will take some time to really look at bikeroom but there are obviously some good deals there.

http://www.smoothshifting.com/ is Peter Sejrup in Peterborough, Ontario
If there are things not listed on his site that you are looking for, you can contact him directly through email and he may have them. I purchased a FSA carbon compact crank specifically in a 170 mm length, as well as a Chorus front derailleur specifically with a 35 mm seatube diameter clamp and a Chorus rear derailleur that was medium cage. Performancebike.com did not have either derailleur in Record with the exact specification.
Sometimes it is difficult to make exact price comparisons when shipping and taxes are included. When I order from smoothshifting I pay GST but not PST (because I am located in New Brunswick) but when I order from performancebike I get nailed with both as well as custom duties and custom clearance charges.
I have ordered enough items from smoothshifting that on orders above $50, I no longer pay shipping.
Generally prices are lower in the US than Canada but when extra charges are factored, the price differential is not as great as it first seems. On some items like Louis Garneau (Canadian made) we can get an equivalent or better price here than if we order from the US unless the item is on "sale" or close out.

Thanks Giro_man; had never found smoothshifting with google seraches.
I will try to take a look there tonight.
I generally find that when I order from the US I really don't save any money at all, so when Cdn sites are close in price, once the exchange, shipping and taxes are factored in I can save money in Canada - nice to have web-site to browse on though - I have been using the old telephone since I had not been able to find any good Canadian online stores.
