Cyclingnews.com is reporting that Vittoria has developed a reversible tire with tread on both sides. when one side wears out, simply pull the tire off the rim, reverse and throw it back on the rim. Perhaps a bit heavy but I've never heard of this before so at least they get props on originality.

Not a bad idea. I don't see the point however of different tread designs within the tire; a bit of rain would probably not induce me to reverse my tires.

I would consider it a worthy mission though, to discourage Voler from doing same with their bibs.

It can act as an emergency spare similar to the mini-spare in many cars.
Here part of the advantge is that you have to carry around only the weight of the thicker rubber in the inside of the mounted tire as opposed to an entire tire, tread, carcas & bead.

This assumes you do not have a considerable sidewall blow out.

The alt tread is a bit of a non starter (mostly) in my view 'cuz it just aint 'quick' to inside out a tire due to weather whims.

Marketing wise, Vittoria can offer a(one) tire that a cyclist can choose either side as their primary, start side & still have spare tread available when the threads of the carcas re exposed.

Why not just make the rubber twice as thick? This may mess with rolling resistance??

Just a thought.

I don't get it.. to me it looks like pure marketing BS, with no practical merit... Kinda like reversable underware.. :)

Reversible underwear..... somedays you are in a tighty whities mood, and somedays you want to wear brown stripes.....
