if you have one place to put a water bottle, what's it gonna be, downtube or seattube? and be honest people.

filtersweep 10-08-2004, 09:10 AM Downtube... in the old days (after the old, old days), it was the only location for the bottle.

Bluechip 10-08-2004, 09:36 AM Downtube for me too. I sometimes even switch out the empty bottle on the downtube with the full one on the seattube just to make it easier for me to reach.
Al1943 10-08-2004, 09:40 AM Downtube, easier to reach while in a racing position.

Seat tube! Actually that's where my one bottle cage is and I honestly have no idea why, just put it there intending to buy another but never got around to it, too many water stops available on my rides to worry about a second bottle. Plus I kinda like the lone down tube, it matches well with the top tube and the bottle looks nice vertically.

BUT... everyone else's points are waaay more valid, so down tube. I just might go move mine.

downtube alone is more aero:

plus, I find it easier to reach for a downtube bottle.
the bull 10-08-2004, 06:13 PM Rotate my full bottle to the downtube when the seat tube bottle runs out.
I have found that on very rough roads the seat tube will hold a full bottle better.
It's not enough to matter, but since more of the weight goes on the rear wheel, I'd put it on the DT to shift 0.01 percent to the front. Plus it's easier for me, at least, to reach there.
Spunout 10-09-2004, 12:20 PM Seat tube, just easier for me. And I also rotate the full DT bottle to the ST.
