View Full Version : Who ruins life as you know it on the East Coast?
shawndoggy 10-27-2004, 11:22 AM Here in Nevada, Californians are blamed for everything from traffic congestion to crime. If it weren't for the Californians, we'd have a bucolic, peaceful, crimefree, uncrowded (yet somehow thriving) metropolis, the argument goes. Californians were also blamed for like annoyances when I was in Utah, and reading another thread, BJ made some reference with respect to Colorado.
How far does California's nefarious evil influence reach? Are you blaming Californians in Nebraska? New York? Maine?
Alex-in-Evanston 10-27-2004, 11:29 AM I learned the term FIB from a Wisconsinite a few years back. F'n Illinois Bstd.
Apparently we mucked up their cow country with our weekend homes, and offend the local polulace with our Chicago Bear Visa Cards.

Californians take a heap of blame for housing prices and traffic congestion. There is the usual racist stuff where recent immigrants from eastern Europe, Asia or west Africa are blamed for crime or economic problems. It's not like the KKK is burning crosses in Seattle but you know how immigrants have always taken the blame for something, and it seems no different here.
I have heard people argue that Canadians from British Columbia are poor drivers, and Oregonians are a pain in the butt when they present their "tax free" cards at retailers. So Washington's neighbors get some blame. I haven't heard any griping about Idaho, for some reason! ("Oh, those Spudheads and their damned potatos, destroying our way of life...")

>>>a drivers license :)
In New England we call them M@ssholes!
Of course then I moved from New Hampshire and became one myself. :D

Do you still register your car here like the 1/2 the mass population?
Duane Gran 10-28-2004, 07:39 AM As there are more states, it is harder to place the onus on one place, but I know that West Virginia is the whipping boy for many ills. This is unfortunate, because WV is a beautiful place without much modern industry.
Having spent a good amount of time in Washington DC, I know there is a bit of snide reaction to New York and New England, and visa versa. On the East Coast I don't believe there is a solid scape goat though.

In colorado it's the texans and californians. the texans only come here to ski--they can't drive in snow and are generally arrogant *******s while they are here. the californians come driving gigantic SUVs, build huge white castles (that look like they should be beachside) next to a mountain that would more suit something less pretentious and inconspicuous looking. how's that for stereotyping?
Live Steam 10-28-2004, 07:52 AM There is a tremendous influx of foreigners here in NY, from Russia and Albania. I find many of the Russians to be very obnoxious. I would guess that's who many New Yorkers would complain about. The Albanians seems to be more modest and friendly.

Oh and I forgot...if you can't blame it on those groups then blame it on the illegal aliens. a big scapegoat here in CO.
thatsmybush 10-28-2004, 08:31 AM Here in N.C. there is always S.C. to make fun of.
Sure we elected Helms but they had Strom! At least Helms was bigoted enough to keep it in his pants. Strom was both a bigot and a hypocrite.
How do you know when you're staying in a South Carolina hotel?
"When you call the front desk and say "I've gotta leak in my sink."
and the person at the front desk says "go ahead".

South Carolina: Just south of North Carolina
Growing up in Michigan though there was always Ohio to piss on.
Why doesn't Michigan fall into the Great Lakes, because Ohio sucks so hard.
Obligatory Michigan/Ohio State game (Cooper Era)
Why does ohio state want to play the next game against Michigan with their field covered with shopping bags...Because ohio state always looks better on paper.
Morgan 10-28-2004, 08:43 AM Lived in Rochester NY for 11 years. It was NY city that got most of the tax dollars yet much of the industry was in other locations like Rochester. NY city caused most of the problems for NY state. Of course that is where highest population of liberals are found in that state.
Turtleherder 10-28-2004, 10:47 AM Iowa is also starting to experience a little too much influx from the northwest suburbs of Chicago. Apparently they bought up all of Wisconsin and are looking for new areas to conquer. The inhabitants of St. Louis blame it on the Hoosiers and the people of Minneapolis blame it on the nit wits from the "range".

Isn't West Virginia's state motto "The state where family trees have no branches."? ;)

When I lived there we used to call them Minnesota Squareheads and they called us Iowegians. Wisconsinites were known as cheeseheads. Don't recall what nasty things we said about Nebraska, but we hated them too.
Who ruins life as you know it on the East Coast?
MY EX-WIFE!!!  :p
(BTW - Nebraska is not East Coast.)
Squadra Rosa 10-28-2004, 05:10 PM The SnowBirds, of all stripes, the loud New Yorkers, the lousy driving Quebecers, the glow in the dark pale Ohioans. All of them. By late winter we're all counting the days to Easter "when we get our state back" Some of us have picnics alongside 95 and watch 'em drive north.

Too bad they can't take the money they spent there while wintering back north with them.
Squadra Rosa 10-28-2004, 05:51 PM We're working on that. Maybe just get them to mail monthly checks during Nov, Dec,Jan,Feb, and March.
Don't misunderestimate our ability to pull it off, we've got the smart brother as our governor.
Sounds like a good schtratergery, and with the Jeb-ster changing/making/ignoring the laws down there, you can't "loose"!!
Do you still register your car here like the 1/2 the mass population?
Nope I'm a law 'biden citizen ... I live in Boston so I have to have Mass registration to get a parking permit which isn't really a negotiable item if you own a car in Boston.
Poor ... but legal
Long live Taxachusetts. Man I miss NH

Okay, I'll finally bite.
Individuals who drive into Manhattan without any passengers, drive like maniacs WAY about the speed limit, which I've never seen enforced, whenever they get a chance, block the box, and cause ridiculous amounts of gridlock!
TypeOne 10-29-2004, 12:57 PM My sister in Maui tells me that everything is blamed on the tourists. Funny, since they account for 90% of the state's economy. But local pride is strong. And there are still beaches where "halis" (I don't know how they spell that) shouldn't surf.
I don't know if there is any difference in the animosity towards American or Japanese tourists.
