I want to plan a vacation in March somehwere in Mexico. Do any of you have
experience road cycling in Mexico? I am hoping to do a few 50-100 mile rides
in some scenic-bike friendly place in Mexico. I would like your suggestions
of where to go. Please email me at dariow@comcast.net with any suggestions. Much thanks.

Dariow,
I live right across the river from Juarez Mexico. The only thing to keep in mind is that in Mexico you have no middle class. That leaves you with the ultra rich and the dirt poor. Here in my community, we sell a lot of the best bikes to people from Mexico. They take cycling very seriously and you will find many races and velodromes in all of the major Mexican cities. Now for beautiful spots to ride... Mazatlan, and Puerto Vallarta are great Pacific beach cities. For the white sand that will remind you of the Bahamas, go to Cancun which faces the Gulf of Mexico. There is also the Baja California side, where Sammy Hagar hangs out...Cabo San Lucas. Ensenada has an annual a ride that is awesome... I think it's in August.
Just go to any of these cities and ask for the local club de cyclismo and you will have the ticket. Cycling is alive and well in Mexico. Believe it or not, almost everyone respects the road bike in Mexico. Cycling is regarded as very honorable and people go out of their way to assist you!
Good luck.

I am going to be in Puerto Aventuras, Mexico next week. It's about an hour from Cancun. I was planning to bring my bike but am now thinking it would be less of a hassle to rent one if that's possible. Do you know if this is a nice area for cycling? I speak Spanish well enough that I wouldn't be adverse to going off the beaten path...
