View Full Version : what happened to the real conservatives? Henry Chinaski 11-03-2004, 08:59 AM Did the fiscally responsible isolationists really vote for Bush? mohair_chair 11-03-2004, 09:33 AM Did the fiscally responsible isolationists really vote for Bush? We are quickly returning to the days of Metternich and Castlereagh, when the conservatives were today's liberals, and vice-versa. Dave_Stohler 11-03-2004, 07:17 PM Look at the changes the republicans went through in 1912, then again in 1932. Maybe we are heading into another time of change? AJS 11-03-2004, 07:31 PM As I've said elsewhere, the fight for the GOP started exactly today. The Neo-Con's won't get even a 5 minute honeymoon on this go round. Many moderate Repub's (if such an animal exists) are very pissed at Bush and want him stopped. sn69 11-03-2004, 08:27 PM AJS' innate anger is, always, underwhelming. There are more than a few shifts coming, at least as far I as predict, not the least of which is a marked shift away from the religious whack-jobs that have usurped the right as well as the seemingly never-ending in-fighting that plagues the left. This will be a curious spectacle to watch. As much as the left has to find a way to appeal to the three G's of middle American (good grief, Charlie Brown), so too do they have to develop a coherent strategy of "enough is enough," whereby the infighting stops early in the election process in order to capatalize on their own fractionalized sub-groupings. Sadly, I fear that Senator Clinton's forthcoming actions will only serve to exascerbate the problem...not so much due to the sex issue, but rather because if she isn't the readily accepted heir apparent, I cannot envision her relinquishing positional power until irrevocable damage is done. As for AJS's rare lucid statement (I'm becomming more convinced that he and Bill are manic alter egos of one another), the right's inner rift will prove more subtle but, perhaps, far more compelling. ...Time will tell.... In any case, what is, is. Cory was right--his industry has yet again regained a ripe, target rich environment, Micheal Moore's movie future is still in-tact, and, for those of you who continue to be distraught but seek some measure of darkly humorous outlet for your anger, I suggest "F*&# Ted Nugent" by Goldfinger. It makes me laugh.... mickey-mac 11-03-2004, 08:37 PM I never thought I'd say this, but we need another Barry Goldwater. sn69 11-03-2004, 08:54 PM I take it back...you're not Castanza's pop. You're my mother; at least your contention mirrors her, and she's an AJS-style Dem. (And, no, I STILL don't want to be a dahctah.) ...."So what are you saying? When you get divorced you turn in your library card? You get a new license? You stop being Jewish?" AJS 11-03-2004, 08:58 PM My "innate anger"? From simply relating a position that one of your Right-Wing pundits (David Brooks) has also put forth recently? How do you whack-job 'Con's continue to extrapolate such character assassinations out of thin air??   It's amazing. Well it worked for Rove last night, right? But just for you sn69, here's another of "AJS's rare lucid statement's": Blow Me. Then we can run off to Massachusetts and get married, O-Tay?? ;) (Gads! Is my innate anger showing again!?!?) sn69 11-03-2004, 09:01 PM 12345 mickey-mac 11-03-2004, 09:03 PM I take it back...you're not Castanza's pop. When you get divorced you turn in your library card? You get a new license? You stop being Jewish?" "Three thousand years of beautiful tradition, from Moses to Sandy Koufax." Goddamn right I'm living in the past. If we're going to be stuck with conservatives, I want old-fashioned conservatives. Goldwater, Nixon, even Jack Kemp sounds good about now. sn69 11-03-2004, 09:05 PM There simply aren't enoug people who appreciate the tale of The Dude, or the interloper who accidentally stumbles on the set during Donnie's "funeral." I need to dig out that DVD. AJS 11-03-2004, 09:07 PM Figures!! You swishy Log-Cabiner's always get cold feet when things get down to the "nub". I think I'll go find a REAL man! LOL! mickey-mac 11-03-2004, 09:08 PM There simply aren't enoug people who appreciate the tale of The Dude, or the interloper who accidentally stumbles on the set during Donnie's "funeral." I need to dig out that DVD. F*ck it, dude. Let's go bowling. sn69 11-03-2004, 09:11 PM You do have thought-provoking content to offer, but it's too often submerged under the "open-minded" labels like sheep, 'cons, etc. In any case, I don't expect to change your mind. And, whether you believe it or not, I don't ultimately judge you for it. Rock on with your .... self. America's Hammer...quaint. sn69 11-03-2004, 09:12 PM 12345 AJS 11-03-2004, 09:19 PM This message is hidden because sn69 is on your ignore list. Isn't technology wonderful?? :D OES 11-04-2004, 07:41 AM Isn't technology wonderful?? :D You'd do well to listen to young Scott. He speaks with more genuine insight that just about anyone else here, left OR right. You're lumping him in with people he doesn't remotely deserve to be lumped with. I've learned an awful lot from him, personally my ownself. Helpfully, hopefully OES Bocephus Jones II 11-04-2004, 07:44 AM F*ck it, dude. Let's go bowling. Come on, man. I had a rough night and I hate the f*ckin' Eagles, man! mickey-mac 11-04-2004, 08:28 AM You'd do well to listen to young Scott. In this case it seems to say more about the ignorer than the ignoree. AJS 11-04-2004, 09:07 AM You'd do well to listen to young Scott. For instance, how does one conclude that someone is "[innately] angry" from this post... As I've said elsewhere, the fight for the GOP started exactly today. The Neo-Con's won't get even a 5 minute honeymoon on this go round. Many moderate Repub's (if such an animal exists) are very pissed at Bush and want him stopped. sn69 has determined this to be so through his wonderful and unbiased "genuine insight"?? Uh, OK. |
