View Full Version : Breaking a 10 speed chain

I am getting set to build up my first Campy equipped bike. I have all Centaur stuff, with the exception of the brakes. Why doesn't Campy make a long brakeset?

Anyway, my question has to do with shortening the chain. The chain is a KMC x10, which comes with a 'master link' to put it together. Can I use a standard Park chain tool to take the pin out for shortening? What do I do next time I need to remove the chain? The master ling (can't remember the cute name they gave it) indicates that it is not hand-removable. I have seen Campy chain tools for $100, I hope that's not what I need!

Thanks for any info!

Scott,

You can use a Park tool to break and shorten the chain. I've given up on the link/connector that Campy provides and now use a SRAM Power Link (9 Speed). I haven't had any problems with shifting using this link. It seems to last a little longer than the Campy provided link as well.

Enjoy the ride
