I'm heading down to Hilton Head around Christmas, how is it for riding down there? Any good rides you could tell me about would be great. Any advice you could give me would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Any advice you could give me would be greatly appreciated, thank you. The word around here (upstate SC)is that riding on HH is not good at all. There is a large network of bike paths where you are mandated to ride. These tend to be suitable only for very low speed riding as there are a lot of pedestrians, kids on bikes, people wobbling along on beach cruisers and rollerbladers. If you try to ride on the road you will be harrassed by motorists and police. Much of the island is broken into large gated communities where you can't go. There is some riding off island, but you will need to drive 45-60 minutes. Might be smarter to just take the running shoes and get in some cross training or heck take the time off and enjoy the family! From what I have been told, cyclists who live on HH go off island to ride. This has definitely limited my enthusiasm for spending more that a cople of days at HH.

here is a helpful link. if you contact some of these folks you could prabably scare up a ride but be prepared to drive to get to it. http://www.lowcountrycyclist.com/
