I am planning on commuting this summer once my daughters school is out and I don't have to take her to school every day. I have tried every east/west road from Walnut Hill to Beltline to cross I35, but none of them seem very safe. It would probably be OK in the mornings, but the ride home would make me very nervous. There are either no shoulders or sidewalks or the traffic is very heavy or the roads are so horrible, it's not practical.

Does anyone have a suggestion for a place to cross I35 going east/west? I think I have exhausted every possibility and cannot come up with anything that instills me with any confidence or safe feelings. My latest thought is to cross at Walnut Hill, but that is very busy in the mornings and evenings.

I know this is very specific, but someone out there must have figured this out before me.

Where are you trying to end up going west?

Where are you trying to end up going west?

The office is in Coppell, about 1 mile north of 635 on Royal. I live just north of White Rock Lake. It's about 25 miles one way.

Have you tried Spur 482 toward Texas Stadium? You get to it just off of Northwest Highway. It has a nice shoulder. From there take the 114 service road up into Los Colinas. I'd have to drive it just to make sure, but that's the way I'd go

I've ridden through that area a lot, but never considered it for a commute. My first reaction is that it's too far south and would add too much extra time, but I might be wrong. I'd probably have to make an adjustment 'upstream', but it could be doable. I'll have to check it out.

FYI - The White Rock trail runs about 2 blocks from my house. I can take it all the way to LBJ and Hillcrest where I can catch Northhaven all the way to I35. Northhaven runs parallel and between Royal and Forrest.

Within a year, you'll be able to go to Fort Worth. The Grapevine to N. Richland Hills is almost complete( I'm riding it in about an hour). Grapevine is supposed to connect through Coppell to Irving. It's been long in coming but when it's complete we'll be able to ride from Dallas to Fort Worth.

Does anyone have a good route from McKinney to Richardson?

I live less than 18 miles from work and hate having to drive on a daily basis. I'd love to find a way to ride back and forth if possible.

Thanks in advance!

Depending on where you are and where you are going, the route might be different.

I was leaving it in general terms that it might benefit more than myself specifically.

To be specific; McKinney, (Eldorado Parkway and Lake Forest area) to Richardson, (Glenview and Greenville area). To break it down more I'd have to get out my GPS :D

Your major problem is going to be getting across 75 in one piece. Can you cross at Stacy Rd by the outlet mall, and catch Hwy 5 south to Greenville? If I'm not mistaken, Hwy 5 hits Greenville a little bit west of Glenview. There are enough office parks in that area that you can ride west-east without having to get onto Arapho or Spring Valley. You may have to go a little further east if Hwy 5 is too crowded. There's no way I'd ride north-south on the west side of 75, esp. in rush hour.

I drive Hwy 5 on a regular basis in the morning. There's enough traffic on it that I'd not want to ride it. I'm mainly looking for a good north/south route that is right west of HWY 75, (Chisholm Trail???). That and a way to jump from around Collin Creek Mall to the area of Renner and 75, (I can ride Spring Creek nature trail the rest of the way into work). All I need to do is get to the Glenview/Campbell area.
