Do Dia-Compe 287-V Levers work well with both V-brakes and traditional cantis, or only V-brakes?

I wasn't able to get them to work well with my avid cantis. they're fine with v brakes, but I had to run them with next to no modulation with the avids. there was no modulation. search the old cx board, I think theres been a couple threads about them but if I recall, the concensus was they dont work well with cantis.

I run dia-compe 287 brake levers with Avid Shorty's & they work great. The only complaint, from the old boards & still now, is the fact that they squeal like all heck when wet.

yeah, mine squeal with 105 levers..sachs levers..diacompe levers..they squeal when I look at them funny.
you must be running the pads pretty close to the rim, Id guess, as thats the only way I could keep mine from feeling spongey. I must not have had any modulation with them, as for some reason I typed "I had no modulation" twice, I should proofread before I submit.

If you want to run regular canti brakes then make sure you get a set of Dia Compe 287s. However, if you want to run Vs then you need the 287-V levers. Similar names different amounts of cable pull.
I'm currently running an old set of Dia Compe BRS500 levers with Onza HO cantis and everything is just fine.

I took a look at my rig & the pads are about 2-3mm away from the rims on each side. I am due for new brake pads soon. Any one hear have any idea on new brake pads, other than Avids (tried both Rim Wrangler & 20 R Performance, nothing but squealing, makes a guy crazy)?
Is there anything else on the market?

I picked up a used set of Dia Compe 287's but can't tell if they're the 'V' model or the regular model. How can one tell the difference? Thanks.

the 287v's have a black plastic piece on the top of the levers that you have to take off to get at the cable, the 287's dont.

Stand corrected, I run 287V with cantis. Avids still squeal.
