I'm considering doing a loaded tour this Summer. I'm considering building a Lemond Poprad frame that I have for this use. I emailed Lemond bikes to see if they recommend touring on the Poprad but they didn't respond. I'm not looking to carry a TON of stuff but would carry a couple days clothes, tent, sleeping bag, pad, etc. I imagine it would weigh about 30lbs. I'm 200lbs and ride a 59cm frame.
If anyone has any experience with this, please let me know how it worked out. Many cx frames don't have a chainstay bridge (Poprad included) and I wondered if the bike would be too flexy/whippy.
Thanks.

Those rack mounts aint on there for show. As for the chain stay bridge I wouldn't sweat it, unless you plan on sprinting up hill while towing an anvil. The rear triangle on my 01' poprad is 525 reynolds as is the fork, commonly used for touing rigs. I couldn't imagine a better bike for touing.

My Poprad frame is the white/green color. Is that an '01?
I couldn't tell, are those mounts for racks or fenders? Since there was only one set (as opposed to two normally found on touring bikes) and because they are set within the rear dropouts, I wasn't sure if they were intended for rack use.
The thing that appeals to me about the Poprad is the relatively low (for a cyclocross bike) BB height. I would assume that leads to a stable loaded bike.
Have you toured on yours or mounted a rack? Thanks.

Never toured on it but am considering using it as a townie when my new cx shows up and some occasional touring at some point. I haven't put a rack on it but used a bob trailer on it and liked the way it rode. The low bb on the poprad is what I think makes it such a great all day ride though it can be problamatic pedaling through the corners. Mine is also a 59 cm and in the gold and red scheem I guess I should say I bought the frame in 02' though its dentical to yours under the skin. As for only one eyelet on the rear hangers I don't see why you couldn't use it as a rack mount. Do you think there is realy any difference? I assume the two eyelet set up is for the rack/fender combo. If you want to run fenders there are other options that clamp onto the seat stays that might work for youi. I wouldn't think that there would be any strucrual difference between the two, it's a cross bike afterall.

I've also got a Steelman Eurocross and Brent Steelman told me the frame isn't designed for any touring, even lighter touring. He implied the tubing was too light and not designed for the heavier loads. I can tell the Poprad is heavier and also it has a more touring friendly geometry, but I thought I'd see if anyone had any experience with it prior to building the frame. I may strip it and give it a repaint into something rather plain and unsexy. This might deter would be thieves.
