I have a set of old tires that are great for a specific application. I would like to use these and I can't get any others as they are no longer made. So here's my question:

Can I get new base tape and glue the base tape onto the tire? If so, what glue would I use to put hte base tape back on the tire. Furthermore, can I simply take the base tape off and glue the tire directly to the rim?

Thanks a lot. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

"...and install new base-tape." You may be able to work a deal on price since you only need the easy step done which I would guess involves minimal labor hours. I have never used TireAlert, just had the bookmark stashed away for future reference. Good luck.

I think the trick is finding an adhesive that will properly bond to two distinctly different surfaces. I have no knowledge or skill in this area but this would be where I would start my research.

Will the tire still fit tightly enough to the rim if you remove the extra "material" of the base tape?

Try Barge cement. You can find it in some hardware stores.
I've also been told that latex solution works.
