I was waiting for someone to capitalize on this. I just came back from a week in Germany last week. During the three days of the business conference I was subjected to no less than four sessions of entirely unprovoked America bashing. Not to mention the little snide jokes here and there from my overseas colleagues. The majority of it was all in good fun, but there were a few people that got pretty passionate about their hatred. Mostly everyone just thinks we are a nation of morons.
One sure thing (at least according to the folks I spoke with) is that a prerequisite to getting elected in most European government positions right now is to espouse hatred, defiance, or at the very least detachment from America. It's pretty much become the price of admission to get anyone to think about supporting you. Especially at the lower community levels of local government. Of course this is all based on anecdotal evidence from the people at my conference. Oddly enough this was a international industry conference for an industry where the vast majority of people in the business tend to be fairly conservative minded. It will be interesting to see if there is a shift in the politics outside the US over the next 4 years mirroring any of this anecdotal evidence.
Side note: Go ahead Bill and the rest who think we'd be better off if everyone just thought the way they did. Say what you will. Tell me to get the h3ll out of your country if I don't like. Tell me how you would be better off with out "loosers" like me.
At some point it's all going to come back and bite us in the @ss.

They must really be jealous of our countless array of Ketchup (Catsup) choices.

So we can perpetually call in the WWII card to give us license to invade sovereign nations at will and generally behave like selfish jackasses when it comes to our foreign policy decisions? Did you ever stop to think that maybe they have a legitimate reason for being upset at us?

Their "legitimate reason" was that they opposed the Iraq action and scorned the US because THEIR LEADERS WERE ON THE TAKE and not only were financially benefitting from the Iraq Oil for Food (Blood Money) scandal, but invasion was likely to expose their crimes. Who were the selfish jackasses?

One word...Halliburton.

Henry Chinaski 12-07-2004, 09:02 AM Well, I mostly go to Italy, and they have Berlusconi, who is probably even worse than Bush (if that's possible) so I'm not too worried. In fact, if I had the money I'd probably get an IF Crown Jewel with S&S couplers and their stars and stripes paint job as my travel bike. :D

Yep, every single one of those old europe types was on the take. The average surrender monkey sitting around some cafe eating sticky cheese and thinking of what a coward he is hates the US because he is missing his cut of the kick back money. And lets not forget it's those lost morals that caused those old world types to enjoy such a lower standard of living and lower quality of life.

I wasn't going to point out that obvious fact to Bill ... it just seemed too ... well ... obvious. It's not like I was hanging out with the Prime Minister or something. Although that one guy did have a pretty nice watch on his wrist, and that suit was a little too nicely ... hmmmmm?

Works both ways. In this past election/presidency what did we see? Short list:
Senate french fries renamed Freedom Fries
Attacks on Kerry's "Franco-esque" wife
Rumsfeld labeling countries "Old Europe"
Higher "protectionist" steel tarriffs, pissing off Europe
The conception that consuming cheese or wine is somehow unpatriotic
Americans slander Europeans with just as much vitriol. IMHO, this is not only bad dipolmacy on both sides but also hypocritical, because for every Oil for Food scandal America has a KBR or Halliburton, and if you're blind to that, well, you're probably related to/are Bill105. Hell, many Americans and most American politicans are from European descent...more of brothers vs. brothers.
