I don't mean to rub it in, but the weather over here is amazing. No work for me until January, so I took a little Xmas shopping tour to Santa Monica. Saw RB's photos & read MarkS's comments about Baltimore this morning. Wish you were here to enjoy it. Shorts & T-shirt. Just a few pics.

I was out there on saturday shopping. I locked up my bike on Broadway/3rd St.

Didn't make it to the beach though. Just ran into Urban Outfitters and Hear Music then road back home.

Hey Meat,
There are a bunch of stores on the Promenade that my wife loves so I can't go wrong if I buy gifts there. BTW- A while back somebody (maybe you) posted something about Urban Outfitters having cool, vintage cycling jerseys. I went in there today and had no luck.

Yeah I was the one found the jerseys at Urban Outfitter, around 6 of them. I should have mentioned that was a couple seasons ago, which in retail and fashon is ages ago ;)

If you let me know your size, I'll keep an eye out for you. I do alot of wardrobe shoping for fashion shoots and sometimes funky vintage clothing stores will have a batch of old school wool jerseys. I found some at Jet Rag in Hollywood on La Brea near Beverly last month. Waste Land on Melrose will also have some once in a blue moon.

Did you ride in to Santa Monica from South Gate? If so, did you take Venice as your main east/west route?

Your photos bring back memories of a "cheating" incident that almost wrecked my marriage. No, it did not involve another woman. But, it did involve going to the beach in Santa Monica. When my oldest daughter, now 15, was a baby, I had to go to LA in mid-December for a week of depositions in a case. The weather was in the '70s. We had a free afternoon, so I took a colleague's suggestion and went to the beach. It was a great idea -- I can still feel the warm sunshine on my Baltimore-chilled hide. But, I made the mistake of telling my wife about it. She was at home in Baltimore, with a screaming baby in freezing temperatures. She was so pissed off, that I sometimes wonder if she would have been any more angry if I really had cheated.

The photos are great. Keep them coming.

I live right at the intersection of Wilshire/San Vicente (the border between Beverly Hills & LA). I take Venice to the east to get to work (South Gate) in the morning, and I also take Venice west when going toward the beach because of the bike lane. Have you seen the construction on Santa Monica Blvd? Would not want to go through there on the bike these days.

RB & MarkS,
Glad you guys enjoyed the pics. Mark, I think your right. I've been married for 11 years, and sometimes it seems that one gets into more trouble for the kind of "cheating" you did than if one really cheated. My lugged, fixed gear girlfriend causes some real jealousy at times.
Stay warm guys,
TY

Oh all this time I thought you worked in West LA and lived in Southgate. Other way around.

Yes, Santa Monica is baad right now. I was looking at the renderings of final plan and saw that they do include illustrations/photos of people on bikes, but I didn't see any bike lane markers.

If you haven't already seen the official site for the project, it's here:

Just go to the rendering section.

I rode my mountain bike through the construction from Sepulveda down to Beverly Glen one nite when it was all still dirt. Fun! Now it's all under construction, so can't do that anymore.
