Has anyone built a fixie for under $500. This includes buying everything, frame, wheels, fork, I mean everything. I am not referring to purchasing a track bike as a whole. If so, what parts did you use and where did you get them? I am interested in a fixie. I picked out a frame, but finding decent parts for under $500 seems impossible. what gives?

Find an old 10 speed at Goodwill for $10-15 dollars. Take off the freewheel and thread on a track cog($10). Re-dish the rear wheel. Remove the derailleurs and 1 chainring you're good to go...

Check bensbikes on Ebay. He sells fixed wheelsets for around $150. Don't think track parts, go for Shimano 105 or lower road parts. Checking Ebay and Performance, Nashbar, etc..., it would be easy to build up a bike for $500.

hard to beat for bang for bucks of you want new and track specific.

save extra coin by buying saddles, rims, tires etc etc from them as well so you dont blow $'s on shipping.

Hi, I bought a Mark V from IRO Cycle. I emailed the owner Tony and let him know I wanted to put it together myself he knocked $45.00 off the price of the bike. He installed the headset cups and bottom bracket for no charge.

Check it out here.

What kind of fixie do you want, and what kind of parts? For $500 you can get either a Fuji or Bianchi (maybe a ceap Olma?). All of these are closer to road fixies ten steep track bikes. Strip the parts and throw em on a beater frame and toss the frameset back on ebay. Cheap

Wheels can be had for about $150 (Suzue basic/MA3), track crank/ring for about $175 (Sugino 75), cog for $15 (Surly), chain for $10 (KMC), headset for $20 (Tange Levin), UN52 bb for $15, Handlebars for $30 (Nitto or other), some closeout stem for $10. Add another $40 for cheap tires and tubes. Thats.... $456. ou have a frame and fork, right?

Way cheaper then a geared road bike.... =)
