Anyone see any safety issues with a 240lb clyde on a Orbea Onix? Just curious, I'm really lusting and it climbs like a m/f'r.

A lighter bike may give you a 20 sec advantage over a long climb IF the bike is stiff. You will be putting out some major stress on a frame. I presume that you will also want to go down some of those hills and again, strong and stiff is what you need. IMO Steel or some stiff Ti frame would be my first choice. Watch out for the lightweight forks too, some get very noodley at our weight range. Good luck cannibal 12-30-2004, 01:40 PM I am also a cyldesdale at 220 lbs. I have had a lot of success in terms of strength and stiffness with my Merckx MX leader (steel) frame and my Merckx Titanium (6/4) time trial bike. IMO from a clydesdale perspective, strength and stiffness supercede weight in all bike applications including safety. Recommend stout steel or ti pipes for clydesdales. mr moab 12-30-2004, 04:45 PM I am also a cyldesdale at 220 lbs. I started out clydelsdale on carbon at 235lbs. No issues for me. Rode hard, potholed roads, no probs on both a Trek and a Kestrel. My question is at what point do I/we have to turn in the clydsdale badge? Down to 205- looking for more....Whadya think- is it sub 200, or do I need to one of these 6'1" 155lb guys....? Thats gonna cut into the barley pops! Ricky2 12-30-2004, 07:14 PM I started out clydelsdale on carbon at 235lbs. No issues for me. Rode hard, potholed roads, no probs on both a Trek and a Kestrel.
