I got the catalog today. I think they are Comp version, which is heavier 20gr per tire as far as I remember weighing them. These are not real Fortezza.
but of course, if you don't check it yourself, you don't really know huh?
They only make one version of the Tri-Comp clincher, (actually named "Fortezza TriComp") and one version of the Fortezza, (actually the "Fortezza Road") and both have kevlar beads. Then there is the "Fortezza TriComp Pro Tubular" and the "Fortezza Superlite SL", neither of which are on sale in this flyer.
Down from those you go to the Volante, Ricorso, etc. Sometimes Performance goofs up their ad descriptions.

All I know is that Fortezza Comp is NOT Fortezza Road. Comp is not TriComp, if anything it is a downgrade from Fortezza. I thought I lucked out getting them for 25 bucks/tire (over a year ago) up until the moment I opened the box, read COMP, weighed them and then sent them back. 270 gr/ tire range. Heavy.
Now I always make sure to read if it is just Fortezza or Fortezza Comp.
See?
Woof.
Woof, you gotta realize that mfg's give a spec for a weight and seldom does the real weight match the advertised figure. Also, there is always going to be variation between the same item. One tire might weight .5 ounce or so more or less than another identical one. It's simply the production variables which can't be helped.
A tire that has a tiny bit more weight on it, but gives better puncture protection like the Vred's do is a very acceptable trade off. I doubt you or anyone would be able to notice a 15 or 30 gram difference in tire weight, 'all else being equal'. Now, something like going from an 1800g wheelset to a 1500g set might be noticable.
My 25c Fortezzas have the white "Vredestein" logo on the sidewalls, the "Handmade" in smaller white letters, then "Fortezza" in larger yellow letters, then the size and psi nomenclature printed very small. There's no "Comp" or "Road" designation. You might have received an older style where they had the "Comp" printed on, but to the best of my knowledge there's never been 2 different Fortezza models. They're the same thing but Vred just changed the sidewall styling or naming.
However, you could almost say they had 2 different Fortezza models in the past, because older ones had gum or light brown sidewalls, where you could see the threads under the clear latex coating. Not too long ago, they stopped making the 'gumwalls' and have blackwalls only now. But those two "versions" were otherwise identical.
Incidentally, the only differences between the Tri Comp and Fortezza is the Tri Comp has the harder durometer rubber compound in the center for longer wear, and softer on the sides for cornering, and various color options. The Fortezza has the softer durometer all around and black only. But the casings and beads are exactly the same for both tires, and it's the same casing/bead they use for the Campo cyclocross tire.
