I''m looking at the nycbikes.com cyclocross frame and I can't figure out which size I need.
I'm only considering this frame for fun road+dirt training, not racing ... so I don't care about performance at their low price.

The nycbikes.com site lists their cyclcross frames at 16", 20", and 22" ... which corresponds to about 41cm, 51cm, and 56cm respectively ...

I'm a 5'5" rider with a road frame sized 52 c-t & 52-53 tt (in cm, of course) ... I'm a pretty small guy, so normally i'd go for the smallest size ... but in the picture of the 41cm it looks like a very sloped top tube. The 51cm, according to spec, has a 55cm tt ... Do you think I can fit the mid-size? or would i fit better on the smaller?

Originally, I thought I might be able to tweak the stem and fit on a bike with 55cm tt ... but after remembering about raised BB height, I think I might have to go with a smaller frame ...

By the way, how do you NYCB customers like the CX bike?

Please advise and thanks for the info.

I don't know them either, but....

They appear to have a pretty severely sloped top tube, so measure accordingly. I'd shoot them an email or ring the phone.

They sure look like a fun cheap ride.

Post the info if you get it from NYC Bikes.

I was too was looking at this frame.

It looks like it's originally a hybrid bike frame. I only guess that because there looks to be a kick stand mount on the bridge between the chainstays near the BB. So the wheelbase may be longer than a cross bike because of this. Just a hunch from looking at the photo.

Well, i went ahead and ordered a frame. I talked to a guy at the shop this morning and they said i'd be able to ride 51 geometry. besides, i think he said something about the effective top tube being around 53cm which I fell better about ... you can't really tell from the website pirctures, but the top tube in the 51 cm does slightly slope downward, which does make the effective tt shorter.

I know I'm a short rider, but the numbers seem so close to my comfortable Cdale, that I think it should work ... We'll see.

( Right now, I'm making my list of needed parts ... cyclocross fork, crankset, etc ... As this won't be my cx race bike, i'm going to keep the cost low. So far i'm looking at the Kinesis forks and dotek/cylone/sugino single cranks on ebay ... Any RBR advice would be appreciated )

If you plan to race this at all, you might want to see about moving those cable braze ons on the bottom of the top tube. Not good if you plan to shoulder the bike. That would hurt.

EDIT: Nevermind, noticed that you don't plan to race.

I'm looking to put together a cross project on the cheap and this looks like it could be part of the program.
