View Full Version : Where to find best deal on 30 speed Ultegra Bike?
ralph1746 12-29-2004, 02:57 AM Hi
I am looking to buy a 30 speed Ultegra bike with an Aluminum Frame with carbon rear stays. I want to just test it awhile and then move the parts to my Reynolds steel bike (Bianchi) and maybe put my old 105 stuff on the new bike and keep it as a backup or sell it.
So I wonder where is the best place to get such a rig at a good price; I have emailed 4 companies with no response yet. But I expect a response or 2 soon. I of course do not want to buy in a shop unless the shop will sell it to me at way under list - which is unlikely as this stuff is new. Local Trek like this is about $2400 plus tax - and I want to pay about $1200 or $1400 or whatever I can get by with.
any good ideas on who to e-mail to get a deal like this via mail order? I appreciate any input as to who might have best pricing.
thanks
Kerry Irons 12-29-2004, 04:12 AM You may be missing the point that all bike frames are not created equal. Your mind set may get you a cheap bike, in the worst sense of the word. Also, consider the fact that there is more to fit than just seat tube length. Your total focus on price may not result in value in your purchase.

I am sorry; but I may not have been clear. I like my current frame - and I know it fits. I just want to try out an Aluminum frame with carbon rear stays - then move the new 30 speed Ultegra onto my current Reynolds bike. Then my current parts I will move onto the Aluminum frame. If I like it, I will keep it with the old parts on it and I can ride it sometimes or my son can ride it if he wants. But if I do not like the Aluminum w/ carbon - I will have my wife sell the complete bike on ebay.
So price is the main factor to me. Plus I understand that most these Aluminum frames with carbon stays are made in the same place anyway - at least that is what dealers admit to me and what I have read online.
filly 12-29-2004, 06:36 AM OK, Ralph, I'll take the bait. "Gee, Ralph, bikesdirect.com has some screamin' deals!"
Is that what you wanted to get out there? If not, sorry. Please continue.

OK - thanks, I will email them
I have already emailed supergo.com, getawaybikes.com, gvhbikes.com, and pricepoint.com - all of which come up on my Yahoo search along with this site
Are there any others you can suggest? I beleive in comparing and trying to get the best deal - I should be able to find more than 5 web businesses that sell this type of stuff

Wait, you want to buy a alum bike with carbon rear triangle and the brand spanking new ultegra 10 speed triple setup for $1200 to $1400? Are you kidding or doI misunderstand your question??
team_sheepshead 01-06-2005, 09:55 AM since you're new to the board, here's the scoop: nitwits from bikesdirect.com occasionally spam this board in some lame attempt at viral marketing. they post things like "i just got this great DA 10 bike with carbon stays for 1200 bucks at bikesdirect. now i'm just like lance!"
so people on this post are wondering what you are up to. bikesdirect.com has a less-than-stellar reputation around here. it doesn't help that they take once-venerable european brands like motobecane and slap those names on cheap asian-made frames. i'm not saying that euro bikes are better than asian bikes. just that's it's not cool to leech off someone's well-known brand. look at schwinn, for pete's sake.
you are new here (since 12/29/04) and your profile says you ride a mercian with campy, while your post says you have a bianchi with shimano. so i'm sure people are curious what you might be really asking. if you have a mercian, though, you must know your stuff. nice bikes.
that said, i'll give you the benefit of the doubt. gvhbikes has a great reputation for fair prices and good service. good luck.

It's not impossible. Just gotta be creative and venture with some lesser known brands.

Coolhand 01-06-2005, 12:34 PM Yeah but the post said Ultegra 10 triple group- not the much cheaper 04 9 speed stuff.

I was just going to post that link. I would recommend you order fast as Supergo sales often dissapear quickly.

I concur with the above.
Supergo's sale prices come and go very quickly sometimes. I wanted a mountain bike frame they had on sale for $349. A couple of days later it was back up to $499 and has not come down in price since then.

Too late I think-
The only downside to this is that frames are very limited, so give us a call today. This sale ends on 12/15/04. Allow 14-21 days for build.
ralph1746 01-16-2005, 12:39 PM I am surprised by some the strange answers I got here to my post and question. But I should know to do the research myself. Which is what I ended up doing. There are lots of online sellers that will cut a customer with cash a great deal if you just email and ask for it. Thing is; I was able to get a dealer from out of state to ship me a Bianch Vigorelli with full Ultegra for $1295 and I avoided the sales tax too. I had several online sites email me with similar deals plus several sellers on ebay claimed they could get deals like that; but I liked the looks on the Bianchi and the dealer would take my credit card which I know protects me. I think what I learned is that I can not ask others to shop for me. If I want the deal; I gotta do the work myself.
