The suspension fork I pulled off my mountain bike was an old one with about 30-35 mm of travel. With that consideration, wouldn't a "corrected" fork have too long a crown race to axle dimension? Any brakes out there that would allow a cyclocross fork to use 26 inch wheels? Thanks in advance.

Sounds like a mountain bike question to me. My suggestion : measure your fork, and get something rigid of similar length. If your bike's that old, I bet any 410-420mm (axle-top of crown) fork will work just fine for you. Zillions of forks out there, designed especially for the purpose you're needing it.
Make sure you get the correct one out of 1" or 1 1/8" steerer diameters, and ahead or threaded as you need it. Cyclocross technology doesn't seem to be the answer for your question. Try www.mtbr.com .
