Did my one cross race this year, and now back safely on the road. Yes that's my 05 Conquest Pro in the RBR classifieds- my wife got my a week's training camp in Az in late Feb so I need to free up some funds.
Here is my suffering (aka I stopped riding Base Miles / Foundation Period for this?)

Some of us don't have an A race until October. Shoot, I just made up my training plan and I don't quit doing base until August ;).

Hey Gripped if you don't mind. I have a question about your training plan. I'm trying to figure out a training plan for myself. You mention doing base until August. When do you start the base period? Also, when do your B and/or C races occur? Thanks in Advance

First, I'm speaking Friel here -- which doesn't differ much from most periodization based methods.
My focus is cyclocross so that's how I'm structuring my training. Starting the first of June, I've got 10 weeks of potential Wednesday night races. The first six are crits and the last four are short track mtb. I've selected them since they are pretty close to home and they are short, intense races -- kind of like 'cross. They are all C races.
Cyclocross starts in late September for me. Generally, there is a race the last weekend of Sept and then the Cross Crusade puts on eight more races in Oct and Nov (stretching to Dec sometimes). I make all the early season races B races and save the last three as A races mainly because the last race is the series championship and has double points.
So basically, I do base from now until August. That doesn't mean I ride slow from now till then. I cheat my base a little by racing during designated base periods.

Thanks for the info Gripped.
I'm also looking at Friel. My primary focus will be cross races in the fall and I was trying to get an idea of how someone else is doing it. I've never tried a training plan. I raced cross this past season for the first time and I wanted to improve my results for next season.
I was curious about the long base period. Thanks for filling me in.
