diatribe 01-03-2005, 06:55 PM Hello all.
I started biking into work again today. It's in line with being more independent, the ability to "excercise my way to work" and well, just different.
I liked the idea of taking pictures along the route so I've decided to contribute.
For respect of this site, I put all my pics on my site. It's new so I'll be doing more things to it once I learn more.
Enjoy...

MarkS 01-03-2005, 07:27 PM Where is your commute in Philadelphia? Although it looks like you have a lot of traffic, it also looks like you have a bike lane -- something that is non-existent in Baltimore. The weather this week should be fairly good for commuting. Thanks for the photos and keep them coming. Commuting photos are what get me on the bike in the morning when it is cold or wet or otherwise not appealing. Of course, once I am on the bike, I find it hard to believe that I hesitated to ride. I have to drive to your part of the world tomorrow (actually north of Philadelphia). So, I won't be riding. But, your pics are giving me a preview of sorts for my day.

My commute takes me from Yeadon through Cobbs Creek Park and right onto 57th street. I take that all the way across the city to City Line Avenue. I actually come up behind St. Joes University on City Line and only have another mile or so to get to the office.
I suggest going downtown and hitting the Ben Franklin Parkway. Thats where the museums are. If you have time, check out the Rodin Museum. Its on the Parkway behind the "Great Thinker" statue. One of the original 12.

Man some of those pictures brought back memories.
I grew up at 54th and Florence and used to Hang in Cobbs Creek park......had cousins in Yeadon. Went to College at St Joe's. 57th street up to City Line is a pretty rough neighborhood, if you are cutting over to 57th on Willow.
Thanks for the memories.

northcoast 01-04-2005, 06:50 AM Nice job! I checked out your website, and the photos look good. I hope you continue to post pics. I think it's cool that more and more commuters are posting photos.
Thanks,
TY
mtbnutty 01-04-2005, 07:22 AM Very cool "xray" shots! Keep 'em coming.
....still waiting for sunny California to dry up for commuting.

Very cool, and thanks for posting! It is great that you are going about the picture post in a different way - it is nice to have that variety.
Glad to hear you converted Brooke, too... that must have been a tough nut to crack ;-) (she doesn't really look the type, ya know?)

diatribe 01-05-2005, 08:00 AM Just a note, I updated the site and the pics are at: www.derekwoodward.com/foto/day1
Thanks.
Osager 01-05-2005, 02:32 PM some mornings, anyway, as I ride north on 48th (bike lane - yay!) to the Girard/Lancaster intersection, then over Girard to Belmont Ave and through Fairmount Park
we are probably moving to the suburbs soon, so I'm trying to soak up the urbanscape as much as I can until then - I'll probably miss the city as soon as we leave, but we need a yard for the kids and less crime
I really like your site and your pics
diatribe 01-06-2005, 06:31 PM Thank you everyone for your kind words about the pictures!
Osager,
It sounds like we're only a few blocks apart in the morning. Philadelphia is good for the bike lanes I just wished that they would run some street sweepers down them. I never really notice them particularly free of debris.
I work on City Line, so I cross over Belmont in the mornings and I've rode down Belmont to the Art Museum Loop (West River Drive) for lunchtime.
I'm sure we'll bump into each other one of these days.
Later...

Do you take the Belmont Plateau route? That uphill is killer but the view is great.
Osager 01-07-2005, 10:25 AM yes, at least I think I'm taking it (that's where the tennis courts are, right? I really should learn the names of places better) The hill is bad when I'm coming home; I actually had to walk up that hill the first time I commuted, so it has a special feeling for me now when I power up the hill.
I'll keep an eye out for you. I should be easy to spot as well, as I am 6' 1", not quite at my fighting weight yet, and never wear lycra.

Ok, so that wasn't you tonight. This guy cam up behind - the first commuter I've seen in a while and scared the hell out of me. I totally wasn't expecting another biker and where he crept up past me was on Whitby Ave... lol. Kinda funny now.
