View Full Version : Crank Install

I am upgrading a Caad5 frame with a Ultegra triple crank, BB, and derailleurs. After installing the crank I am suspecting that it is not installed far enough onto the BB's axle. The problem I am having is the front derailleur will not shift out far enough to shift the chain to the top ring. (I have the 1-2mm height above teeth set properly) The outside rail of the derailleur is aligned with the teeth of the chain ring when I fully extend the derailleur by hand. The way I mounted the crank was to align the crank splines on the bb axle and install as far as possible by hand, I then used the crank bolt to press the crank onto the axle until I reached a torque of 50 ftlbs on the crank bolt.

Is there a measurement I can make to ensure the crank is far enough on the axle? Will any damage result if I tighten the crank bolt even more to press the crank on further?

Thanks
