Hi All,

Just a quick question and hopefully some helpful feedback.......

My Colnago Super had an Athena group on it when I was buying it.....in order to close the deal, I had the LBS switch the Chorus off of a Pinarillo that I was also considering to the Colnago in order to close the deal. So I got the upgrade for no cost.

I found that the head set still said 'Athena' after looking at more closely months after I had the bike. I was told by another LBS Campy dealer that the Chorus and the Athena where the same except for the name.

Anyway.....I have ridden on it for @5K miles and the bearing had dimpled the channnel they sit in and I now needed a new Head Set.

I read and researched and and despite strong recommendation from LBS, decided against Chris King and stayed with Campy and got a Record Head Set.

I have a couple questions......

1) Was this a good decision? It is my only bike and I may get another one but not for a couple years.

2) Is the Athena Head Set that I removed worth anything to another rider?

I appreciate the help,

Best, Rocco

I wouldn't get too hung up about headsets. If the bars turn smoothly, it's working.

You could resurrect your Athena hs by using loose balls instead (old mechanic's trick). You can fit more balls in, and they will not fall into the dimples. I've done this with my Athena hs and it works.

Worth anything? I can't imagine why anyone would buy a brinelled headset.
