The mainstream media seems too chicken to report on the protesters. Looks like tear gas was used at least once.

Interesting that none of the pictures show any sign of the snow that DC got yesterday.

Is the New York Times not "mainstream" enough?

or, maybe that bastion of independece, Fox News:

Or CNN:

What, exactly, is the mainstream media too "chicken" to report.

Looks like they caught on! ;) There was literally nothing coming from them for a while.

I think the delay was probably because it is inherently more difficult to report on something spontaneous (the protests) than on something scripted (the inaugural events). You've got to figure that the White House released the Inaugural Address ahead of time, and the stories were mostly written before the events even happened. With the protests, they would have actually had to first find the protest, and then write about them, and then report back to their editors.
Bloggers who are planning to be in the "thick" of the protests probably have the sort of advance information on the protests that "mainstream" media had on the inaugural events.
