I was sprucing up my Schwinn Homegrown MTB and noticed my rear derailleur was a bit out of whack. So I decided to check out a couple websites for a replacement. They seem to be a pretty rare commodity but the one place I did find that had the exact item was charging $21.99..... 22 bucks for a little piece of aluminum!?! I'd rather pay $300 for a trainer :D
Does anyone know where I can pick up a replacement hanger at a reasonable price?
Thanks!!

Yeah, whenever I've priced out one of those, that's about what I get. It seems high to me too, but that's what happens on specialty gizmos like that. The distribution costs exceed the actual product cost.
Now here's the good news. Unless your derailleur hanger is pretty far out of whack, it'll still adjust with a regular derailleur alignment gauge.

Well, you can go down to Home Despot and buy a chunk of 6061-T aluminum, and start working away at it with your hacksaw, dremel tool, and a heli-coil. 3 or 4 hours later, maybe $22 wouldn't sound like such a large amount of money.......
