of mechanical incidents?
I was watching the final sprint of today's stage of Paris-Nice and couldn't believe Floyd Landis's chain mishap. Like the announcer said, it probably wouldn't have changed the outcome but who knows?

That's a good question. I'm not sure because Idon't watch every single event in great detail but I have not noticed that they tend to have any more than the usual. Now Cofidis, that's another question.

Other than Landis's mishap, what other incidents are you thinking of? I can't think of any?

Armstrong's brake adjustment is the only other one that comes to mind, oh, that and the cleat releasing after the musette bag crash. I just find myself saying "don't they have a mechanic?"

The brake adjustment thing is questionable, for a few different reasons, but let's for argument say it was a mechanical.

The cleat thing after the crash was because the seatstay on his bike was cracked and the frame was flexing. Don't think you can count the cleat in this case, but maybe you could substitute his frame cracking because some Basque dude fell on it.

Count 'em or don't count 'em as mechanicals, either way, USP has a very, very low incident of mechanical issues. Landis's dropped chain is the only true mechanical from USPS that I can think of for some time. And who knows, Landis's chain may have been operator error? Or maybe not. Only folks that know this is Landis and USPS.

don't forget the chain-stay crack but that's not Shimano. I think USPS is the beta group for Shimano. They get the lastest and greatest from the big S but methinks they also get a few of the duds (unintentional) to test along with it. (they were the first w/ D/A 10 gruppo) so maybe they have some new chains and Floyd maybe just found a problem for their R & D.
