Well after months of training, with a ton of base I was burning out. I felt like I was not really going anywhere, did not feel like I had increased enough. I felt obvious improvement, but did not feel like I had graduated from total mush yet. I have finally started to feel the pay off and it is freakin AWESOME! Well last weak was week two of one of our hard three week sets, Saturday was 65 miles with some serious hill repeats, Sunday I rode solo in freezing rain (didn't get the ride inside today message) so I felt good. Today was 11 minute on 3 minute off four time interval. The other new rider was out and puked (think he was kinda sick, but I still dropped his ass :) and totally loved it ) I felt great, it put me in such a freakin sweet mood I just had to talk about it. I still have years to go but really hope to do well in Cat 5 and move up to 4 as soon as possible. Awesome!

Never forget how you feel this day!!! Next year when you are slogging through base again, just remember how you feel today and your motivation will come back.

I've been doing boring zone 2 rides all year either on the trainer or outside. Now my training plan allows one Zone 3 Tempo rode each week. I was going to do weights yesterday, but the sun was out and it was relatively warm out so I did my Tempo ride outside yesterday.
After a short warmup I spent 40 minutes in zone 3 and it felt great, I caught myself getting up into upper zone 4 a couple of times and had to back off the gas to try to keep it down in zone 3. I'm glad I did not cross paths with any other riders or I'm sure I would of burried the needle and passed them on my beater bike, knobbies and all. It felt good to be going with a little intensity again. At the end of 40 minutes I welcomed zone 1 and the return trip home. Next week I get to do 50 or so minutes up there).

It is such a good feeling, for me the ability to sustain hard efforts is something I have never been able to do (just didn't play sports much). I always hated running passionately, so earlier on when I was able to knock out a century... I was like WHOA! After a while it got boring though, now being able to knock out an hour worth of intervals during a 70 mile ride, that REALLY blew me away. I was like holy crap how did I do that!
