View Full Version : Local bike shop has a steel Serotta for $700
Jaybo 02-22-2005, 04:52 AM Hollywood Cycles in Portland, Oregon has this 2001 steel Serotta with a red, white, and blue Serotta for sale. It has never been built up and includes a matching carbon fork. How do you think this frame would ride? Frankly, it doesn't look like anything special except for the paint job. Is there magic in this frame? A buddy is considering this frame and I thought I would check to see what you thought.
Thanks,
Jay

Thanks for the tip.... great frame.. just went and bought it...
Not really...
Any new Serotta frameset at that price is a pretty good deal. It's probably a tig-welded version, rather than a lugged one, but even still I would be tempted if I were in the market for a new frame.
fastfullback 02-22-2005, 10:01 AM That is, if it really fits, and if it's really suited to what your buddy wants. That's basically the same money you would pay for a new Salsa La Raza, and less than you would pay for a new Gunnar steel frame--both nice rides. In terms of quality, workmanship and finish it should be better than either.
ScienceGuy 02-22-2005, 02:02 PM As Mark said, it is probably the Colorado III, not the CSi. That said, at $700 for frame & fork it is a great deal. Serotta has allowed bike shops to sell old stock at a very reduced rate both in store & on eBay. If it fits your friend, he'll have a great bike. Tell the lbs to build it up like he wants so he can take it for a day-long test ride.
bcm119 02-22-2005, 02:46 PM If you want the straight scoop on the frame, jot down the serial number on the BB and email Serotta for more info on it.
If it has lugs its a CSi, if its tigged its a Colorado III. Either frame is absolute top of the line steel. Check out how the tubes flare at the BB, they make for a very efficient and lively frame.

I just bought a Titus Drop U frame that I'm happy with...it is at Hollywood Cycle on 58th and Sandy. Nice deal.

PS my buddy is a flaming liberal and can't handle the stars and strips on it.
fastfullback 02-25-2005, 10:16 AM Show him a picture of Fast Freddie's cool bike, perhaps. Just because the GOP wraps itself in the flag is a lousy reason to dislike the flag. And an even worse reason to dislike a paint job that's on a great set of tubes!
You could remind him that he has an opportunity to surround that flag with blue saddle, bar tape, rims, tires, pedals... make it his left coast political statement...
Or he could wear an all white suit and say it's his Evel Knievel bike...

I can't imagine anyone in the USA not wanting our nation's colors...unbelievable! I'm a moderate: liberal in some areas and conservative in others. A real mixed breed. But, I think these liberals who hate Bush and love guys like John Kerry have drunk the Koolaid of mindless rhetoric and juvenile thought. You can dislike what Bush has done but he cannot be all bad or all good. These simple minded folks are so intent on hating Bush that they have begun to hate America. I heard some little mind the other day say we are responsible for the suffering in Africa. Hmmm. We are the oppresor to these moronic idealogs with their heart of hate and foolishness.
I think that frame would rock! I am happy with my Titus or I would buy it...

fastfullback 02-25-2005, 06:06 PM Lots of people on both sides of the fence are obsessed with hating the "others" right now, throwing their definition of America all out of whack. Eventually they'll realize that the flag belongs to everyone and we should all be proud of it. And at least one of them will realize he's not riding a sweet American steel bike because he overreacted.
Now if only I could stop thinking about that frame... good thing you didn't say what size it is!

Jeez, talk about over the top. It's just a damned flag, and the colors...well, they're just three of an infinite number in the visible light spectrum. If someone doesn't want them on their bike or where ever, so what? Last I checked, the flag and colors are just symbols, and we definitely are not beholden to the damned things. Jeez. Talk about mindless rhetoric, you're spewin' it. What anyone wants their bike to look like doesn't mean a damned thing. It's a personal choice....hmmm, maybe one of the freedoms....and a matter of personal taste. And talk about hate and foolishness....get over it dude. I didn't know that a particular bike motif had to be a political statement or a show of patriotism....whatever the fcuk that is.

The flag represents the blood of many people who have died so you can have the life you now enjoy. If it wasn't for those people you would be speaking German or Japanese. It is not just a light spectrum. People like you take your freedom so lightly you have lost all sense of gratefulness for what you have.

Hooweeee! You are funny. I took you seriously, for a moment there, a while back. I should have known you were sharp little prankster by the way you pretended to get your hackles up over a bike color scheme. After all, everyone knows that blood shed was "supposed" to be for the people or the ideal, not some stupid flag. Golly, you've offered up a real knee slapper. All the vets that I know think you're a real card, what pretending to have some exclusive, altruistic view of patriotism, national symbology, and bike decor.
