LUNA Bar Expands LUNA Chix Ambassador Program to Include Running / Walking, Triathlon and Road Cycling
> February 22, 2005
>
> Recognizing the importance of inspiration and motivation in women's
> sports, LUNA(r) is proud to extend the LUNA Chix Ambassador program
> into the sports of running, walking, road cycling and triathlon for
> women looking to lead healthy, active lifestyles. Mountain biking will
> remain a cornerstone of the program as chapters are added in Seattle
> and Austin complimenting existing chapters in Denver/Boulder and San
> Francisco. This initiative is inspired by the success of LUNA Chix
> Mountain Bike Ambassador Program and the LUNA Women's Professional
> Mountain Bike Team created by LUNA, the original Whole Nutrition Bar
> for Women.
>
> The LUNA Chix Ambassadors
> LUNA Ambassador Teams were pioneered in Berkeley, CA in 2002, with a
> second chapter, The Tuesday Night Ladies Club in Boulder, CO joining
> later that year. Today's LUNA Ambassador Teams are modeled after the
> Tuesday Night Ladies Club, a group of women from Boulder, Colorado who
> wanted to give something back to their community. They began
> promoting women's mountain bike clinics as LUNA Ambassadors -
> enlisting pro LUNA Women's Mountain Bike Team racers to make
> appearances as guest coaches
> - and promoting annual fund-raisers for the Breast Cancer Fund.
> Through activities like LUNAFEST(tm) - a film festival by, for and
> about women; silent auctions, bluegrass concerts, and creative
> promotional efforts, the LUNA Chix Ambassadors, in tandem with the pro
> LUNA Women's Mountain Bike Team, have become the fifth largest
> contributor to the Breast Cancer Fund. Along the way, LUNA Chix
> Ambassadors have generated tremendous support from local businesses,
> community leaders and regional media.
>
> Current Members and Mission
> At present, LUNA Chix Ambassadors have chapters in Boulder, CO,
> Bozeman, MT and Berkeley, CA. These members come from backgrounds as
> diverse as small business owners, former professional athletes, and
> corporate executives. Working within their communities to target
> healthy women seeking inspiration, motivation and a new twist in their
> activities of choice, LUNA Chix Ambassador groups are charged with a
> four-part mission:
>
> 1.) To get more women involved in sports and outdoor activities.
> 2.) To inspire women to seek new challenges through outdoor
> activity.
> 3.) To encourage social change by actively participating in
> fund-raising efforts for the Breast Cancer Fund.
> 4.) To have fun while sending an inspirational message to women with
>
> similar interests.
>
> Accepting Proposals
> Through the month of March, LUNA will be accepting proposals from
> prospective groups in Seattle, Austin, San Francisco and Denver /
> Boulder ranging from 4-8 women, who are actively involved in the
> sports noted above. Ideal candidates will be "Amazing Women doing
> Amazing things," who will encourage and invite women to join them,
> regardless of fitness or skill level and create a welcoming atmosphere
> and attitude towards trying something new or setting goals. Groups
> will be responsible for meeting, motivating and inspiring women to
> participate in a variety of activities to get involved in their
> community as they devise and execute a minimum number of activities
> within LUNA Chix Ambassador program guidelines. Included will be at
> least two annual benefits on behalf of the Breast Cancer Fund, one of
> which will be a LUNAFEST.
>
> Benefits
> Qualified groups and sponsors will be associated with a great women's
> brand and recognized as part of a respectable program within their
> sport. These groups will receive event assistance from LUNA in the
> form of limited monetary support, tents, banners, LUNA product,
> apparel and team gear at a substantial discount, as well as a limited
> amount of gear free of charge. It is important to note that while
> competition is encouraged, this is not a grassroots racing team or an
> extension of pro LUNA Team.
>
> Sponsorship
> The LUNA Chix Ambassador Team is seeking team and event sponsorship to
> move this program forward. Interested parties should contact Inger
> Norman at 480.831.7253.
