View Full Version : its my day off
naawillis 02-27-2005, 06:32 AM today. i know i should take one, but i'm so bored! im taking 1 day off for every 9 on this time of year, so i dont have lots of time for expirimenting with off the bike activities. i did 50 recovery miles yesterday after a hard effort on friday, and they worked. that is to say, i'm recovered. i feel like i could ride a century. but, i'm gonna be good today and stay in (the fresh snow overnight will help me do that). anyway, the point of this thread: whaddya yall like to do on days off? cycling can be a little consuming from time to time. id like to hear about what other people enjoy doing (or what they do anyway at the request of the misses) when they're not on the steed. i for one read a lot and play the harmonica, but i cant really do that until later in the day (sleeping neighbors).
naawillis 02-27-2005, 06:36 AM maybe this should go in general discussions? its kind of about training...
vonteity 02-27-2005, 12:34 PM I get one day off for every 27 days... and it's always on a Thursday.
Generally, I just try to get all the stuff done around the house that I've neglected, or go out with a friend or something. Maybe catch a movie... anything but think about the bike! :)
Kerry Irons 02-27-2005, 05:11 PM If you want to have a long running, smooth running bike, then your days off would be great times to spend overhauling things. If you did one component on each day off, your bike would be in tip-top shape at all times. You could even build your skills by working on your friends' bikes once yours was ship-shape. Alternatively, you could improve your mind, watch old movies, read bike magazines, learn another language, work for a local charity, etc.

What do I do on my day off? In N.H. I shovel the 15" inches of snow that falls. This month I've been getting alot of days off. Sub freezing temps when it's not snowing. This month has been terrible.

i ususally take 1 day off the bike/week, or make it a 30-60min recovery ride..... i need that time to clean, do laundry, wash dishes, pay bills, read, go get coffee, watch the simpsons, sleep, etc. all the things i dont have time to do during the rest of the week. i NEED that day...not soo much for a break from the bike..but a chance to get the rest of my life back in line.
bimini 02-28-2005, 05:34 AM It goes a long way to repair the riff, all cycling, all the time, puts between us.
