I'll get in the game ... I took the long way in this morning, stretching my 6 mile commute into a 24 mile multi-state "adventure." As most of probably don't know, there is a Vancouver, WA which is right across the Columbia River from Portland, OR. This morning, I rode across the river to Oregon/Portland on the I-5 bridge and then returned to Washington on the I-205 bridge.

1) I-5 bridge -- this is a drawbridge.
2) I-5 bridge the other way
3) Boat slips in a side channel between Tomahawk Island and Oregon.
4) Plane landing at PDX
5) PDX
6) Side channel between Government Island and Oregon plus the first 1/3 of I-205 bridge.
7) See ya Portland.
8) Really bad picture of Mt. St. Helens from work. My camera only has a 3x zoom and virtually no exposure control.

You sucked me right in with that title!!
In the leaving Portland picture is that a bike specific lane you were in? Great shots, love the boat sheds, makes me yearn for warm weather...lol
What does the bike look like? Looking forward to more pictures?

The I-205 bridge (leaving Portland sign) has a MUT right up the middle between eight lanes of traffic -- four in each direction. It can be pretty loud. The I-5 bridge (green drawbridge) has pedestrian walkways on either side. The west side walkway is a little wider than the east (pictured).

Great shots and they bring back fairly happy memories (every thing that reminds me of riding brings back fairly happy memories).

Thanks.

That must be a wild ride... I've never ridden across the Columbia but every time I've driven over the wind was hell. I gotta try that someday! Good to see someone enjoying the nice weather we've been having, thanks for posting!

I have ridden over the Columbia three times. Each time it was in Longview with 10,000 of my closest friends (STP). I miss riding in the summer when you can leave on group rides at 7 pm since it didn't get dark until 9:30. Out here in paradise on the extreme west coast (Hawaii), it is a perfect day most days. The problem is the road conditions and the way that people dump trash and glass everywhere. I have to commute on a mountain bike because of all of the junk that I cannot see with a headlight in the morning. At least in the NW you have bike lanes, shoulders, and some people that care enough not to dump. Why is it that the most beautiful places have the most environmentally unfriendly people? I remember seeing collections of washers, dryers, and other appliances on the trail in Washington too. I have done two tours of duty in Washington state and am trying to get there again in three years. Hawaii to Washington will be a harsh move.
