Hi I live in Montreal and I just can't wait until all the snow melts. I bought me a new bike and I want to try it out on dry roads in the US during Easter(weekend of march 25th).

Can anyone recommend a DRY place, not too cold, in the eastern US. I was thinking driving to Virginia or around that area to a nice safe paved bike road, not to many hills since I mostly wanted to go as fast as I can for as long as I can. I figured driving a day to get there, riding the day after and the following day to get back to Montreal(3 to 4days roundtrip).

Thank's in advance for your help!

Hi Chris,
Welcome to RBR. I'm from Montreal too, grew up in Nouveau Bordeaux, not too far from de L'Acadie and Gouin in the north of Montreal. Where are you from? Where did you buy you new bicycle from? What did you buy?
I think its great you want to go ride in the US, but I would move your question and post it in the regional forum for Mid-Atlantic, so that folks from that part of the US will get the chance read your post there. Anybody reading posts for Canada expect to get tips about riding in Canada, not around Virginia.
Cheers, Wayne

Hi Wayne! Thanks for the advice and I did post this same message in "mid-atlantic" as well. I wanted to post it in "Canada" because I thought some other Canadians might of got the same urge I got to ride their bikes down south.

I'm actually from Longueuil and work in Montreal, during the summer I often ride "le circuit Gilles Villeneuve", the "canal Lachine" and also to "St-Jean-sur-le-Richelieu".

Last year I discovered cycling so I bought a SpeciaIized Sequoia to see if I would like riding more on a quality bike and next thing I know I did 1700km last summer, not bad for a newcomer. Well as you can deduceI I feel in love with it so this year I bought a 2005 Giant TCR-3 Composite at Primeau Vélo in Brossard and I'm just itching to ride it.

What about you? What's your story and what bike(s) do you own(past/present)?

Who knows maybe we will see each other on the greater montreal bike trails sometime this summer Wayne until then have a great ride!

Hi Chris,
These days I ride some pretty old bicycles. A 1988? Fisher Montare Mtb as my everyday wheels to get around town. It's not super fancy, but very functional. For the winters here in northern Sweden, I've equipped it with studded tyres and a great lighting system from Jet Lites in California. My other bicycle is a 1990? Argon touring bicycle from Cycles Gervais Rioux on St-Denis and Laurier. Was in their store last summer when we were back in Montreal to visit family, they have always had beautiful stuff. The US dollar versus Swedish krona exchange rate is so favourable these days, that I've now decided to go ti and buy a Moots Vamoots with Campy. Just have to figure out how to get it from the US here... the distributor selling Moots in Sweden is charging a fortune.
Cheers, Wayne
