Cannondale is proud to announce its team sponsorships for the 2005 sporting season. As a major player in the world cycling racing scene, Cannondale will see a name change in its longest-standing team relationship, a continuation of its highly successful off-road team and grass-roots team, and two new partnerships in Europe.

Lampre-Caffita

2005 sees Cannondale’s longest-standing team sponsorship change its name. After an off-season that saw much focus on the new UCI ProTour and the team shuffling that followed, the teams formerly known as Team Saeco and Team Lampre have merged to form Team Lampre-Caffita. While the familiar sight of Team Saeco's Red Guard leading the peloton will disappear this year, look for the blue and fuchsia jerseys of Lampre-Caffita to continue their winning ways aboard Cannondale bicycles in 2005.

Riders and staff from both teams have merged together to focus on the team's primary goals for 2005, including the Giro d'Italia, Tour de France, ProTour victories and classification, and of course the World Championships.

For the Giro d'Italia, the team will send two aces: two-time winner Gilberto Simoni and defending champion Damiano Cunego. The 2005 race will likely see both riders closely marked as Simoni was in 2004. July will see Cunego most likely heading to France to lead the team at the Tour in hopes of gaining valuable experience in La Grand Boucle.

Siemens-Cannondale

The Siemens-Cannondale Mountain Bike Racing Team will be made up of three past champions who are icons of the sport, and a young hopeful who is ready to break into the top echelon of the sport.

In 2004, when the team was known as Siemens mobile-Cannondale (a corporate change will discard the ‘mobile’ portion of the name in 2005), the team won the overall World Cup Team Titles in both the cross country and four cross disciplines. For 2005, this focused team will concentrate on World Cup victories, overall classifications, regional and national events, as well as various 24 Hour, festival races and events. The team will be composed of Cedric Gracia, 2004 Cross Country World Cup Champion Christoph Sauser, Fredrik Kessiakoff, and David “Tinker” Juarez.

Cannondale Mountain Bike Racing Team

With a strong bronze medal success in the NORBA pro-team standings in 04, the Cannondale Mountain Bike Racing Team looks to step it up even more in 2005. Looking at the team make up this season, the word that comes to mind is “diversity”. Over the past few years the range of events available for off-road athletes has really expanded. By embracing this new array of competitive opportunities the Cannondale Team has found success across the whole spectrum of the sport. Importantly, this diversity gives the team a great way to show off Cannondale’s impressive selection of bicycles. With athletes from 25 states, Canada and Chile, the Cannondale Mountain Bike Racing Team is a celebration of this diversity.

Heidjens ten Tusscher Mountain Bike Racing Team

Cannondale is proud to announce the official sponsorship of the Holland-based Heidjens ten Tusscher Professional Mountain Bike Racing Team for the 2005 racing season. At the team presentation in Enschede, Holland (close to Cannondale’s European headquarters), manager Jan ten Tusscher stated that the main goals of the team will be for each individual to perform better than in past seasons and to score in international races, primarily the European Cup and UCI World Cup. In addition, national championship victories and UCI team rankings (they will start the season ranked 5th) will also be key objectives.

Jan ten Tusscher began importing Cannondale’s before they were officially available in Europe and is the motor behind this team. Jan has been involved as a team manager for the past 15 years. This year his team promises to be better than ever, with 3 riders in the UCI top 25 ranking.

UC Bergamasca 1902 and UC Cremasca Teams

Cannondale is proud to announce the official bicycle and race apparel sponsorship of the UC Bergamasca 1902-Las Helmets Team (also racing under the name UC Cremasca for select races). This historic team representing two sporting societies is made up of twenty riders, fourteen of them in their first or second season, and most competing in the Under-23 class. The team’s importance in Italian amateur racing cannot be denied, as it has been winning Italian races since 1902!
