...which do you like better? Why? Is there another magazine, such as Velonews, Bicycling, etc. that you prefer?

Discuss.

I like PC bike review more but cycle sport has better photos. Velonews has some good stories and I love "whats hot" vs "whats not" Cyclesport is more unbiased and ProCycling doesn't hesitate to call things what they are....they are all redundant since you can find all that stuff on the net for free but they make good time passing when you need to feed the monkey

It depends what you want in a magazine.

If you're interested in European racing coverage, both are excellent. If you want a lot of product reviews, they are both lacking IMHO.

Another UK publication, Cycling Plus, is my favorite. They don't have the deep racing coverage but their product reviews are outstanding. They cover touring, some pro racing, track, and retro every month. These are my interests, they might not be yours...

Again, it depends what you want in a magazine

As previously mentioned, it covers the pro-european cycling scene. Product reviews are lacking. I used to subscribe to VeloNews, better product reviews, but Cycle Sport has more fluff. I'm not sure. but I think Pro Cycling is on the expensive side. Cycle Sport used to throw in a free video along with a renewal, but I guess they stopped doing that, too bad. I don't think I have ever read a complete issue of Cycle Sport cover to cover and by the time the current issue comes out it's already old news. Great photos by Graham Watson, they should call it Cycle Fluff....

but i am a history buff, and i really don't know much about the people behind the names you read about in velo news and the other mags. i find it interesting to read the profiles of the current and past riders. it's odd, i know, but as an american i had a hard time putting a "person" with some unusual european name, and cyclesport does that for me. i guess i read it for reasons other than bike reviews or "play by play" action of some race i may or may not of heard of. oh, and they still offer the free dvd when you sign up or renew.

I'm all about procycling. When my local borders had it out of stock for 3 weeks I couldn't see the point in continuing in life...

I have to disagree on the photo point. Tim de Waele, who does nearly every photo they've got, is the best next to G. Watson. The picture he had of the close up on a camel with green liquid spewing out of its mouth while there was a race going on in the backround in Qatar was priceless. As for product reviews, If you can take a little bit of British Elitism, it doesn't get much better than a monthly dose of Chris Boardman. I'll agree, there's not too much review meat, but if you want product info., the net and Bicycling are the way to go. I also find that the way PC covers racers, as opposed to just racing, is phenomenal. The fab four, where they follow four up and coming/maturing riders, is my favorite section. They're using it to enhance the scope of the sport, too, by following a young Tunisian training in Aigle this year. Plus, numbers section is well done. Pricey, yea, but they have 150 page + issues at least 3 timees a year. Very deep coverage.
