Greetings guys,

Trying to find out what year my 'Tommasini' is. It's a Tommasini 'Comp' w/ Columbus 'SL' frame in pristine condition. LBS (where I bought it) tells me it's all original. Has Shimano '600' gruppo 8-speed , w/ 'Sun Tour' alloy headset and STI shifters. The brake calipers, levers, and both derailuers are a dark gray and is very nice. Wheels are Mavic 'Open 4 CD' with '600' hubs. I bought the bike in Sept. 2001, and after e-mailing 'Tommasini' in Italy, all they could tell me was "it was at least ten years old." This bike is fantastic, and was thinking about upgrading to period specific 'Campagnolo'.

Anyone have any info on this great bike? Appreciate your comments!
Heres a pic, Thanx.

Pretty bike, my source shows that frame as being from 90 to 94. This I think jives also with the component group.

William Lewis at wmlewis@wimberley-tx.com and ask him.

I have a very similar Tommasini Comp (Columbus SL but has a red main scheme) from the same era that is not built up.

If memory serves me right, Colorado Cyclist sold Tommasini frames and bikes as far back as 1996, perhaps even earlier. You could ask them.

With SL and that paint scheme, you are looking at closer to 1990 vintage. Colorado Cyclist sold Tommasni frames back as far as 89-90. I have catalogs from back then and can look and post again what I find. I specifically remember that paint scheme from the catalogs.

Thanks guys for your input. When I bought the bike from my LBS they said it looked to be early 90's, but was'nt sure. They did say it had virtually no wear anywhere on it when they took it down and inspected all the bearings. Apparently it had sat most of it's life. The bike rides very sweet, and I really can't fault the ' 600' components, although I still want Campy. If it helps, there is a stamp on the BB shell that says "US 4" on it.

Here is some more pics, Thanks

Just received e-mail from Mr.Bill Lewis of William Lewis Imports wmlewis@wimberley-tx.com who was the 'Tommasini' importer of that era. Although he only sold frames and forks, he said my bike was most likely mid to late 80's.

I did'nt know if they even had 8-speed back then, or even STI for that matter. Actually I don't care what year it is, ~ but I would like to know!

Can you Identify any of the date codes in the 600 components? That may not
be totally accurate but could narrow down the range quite a bit.
www.vintagetrek.com has a good section on component dates and does well
at explaining shimano codes.
